metto_x -> Realistic air combat? (7/8/2005 8:59:55 PM)

I have read countless threads about how air combat is unrealistic and gives "wrong" results in games. Namely WitP and HOI2. So I decided to make a small air combat program myself, one that would give "correct" results in air engagements. But it's very hard to get statistics about WW2 air combat, something to try to imitate. I have found nothing useful in the Internet, only general stories about how some planes were "good" or how many casualties were suffered over long periods of time.

So perhaps you people, interested in war, could help me?
Things I would like info in are:
What's the average ratio of damaged vs destroyed planes in combat? I think heavy planes are more usually damaged than destroyed. Do damaged planes become sitting ducks and get shot or can they generally flee combat and get home?
How heavy casualties are suffered in a typical engagement, in percents?
What ends a battle? Lack of fuel, ammo, morale?

Thanks for any help. Don't have any expectations from my "game", it's just a freetime project.
