AlexCobra -> Gamesave problem (7/9/2005 4:00:43 PM)

Hi,

Tired of guessing what's going on and came here. There is a problem in my PBEM game: when my opponent sends me the turn, and I'm trying to load it, it asks for opponent's password. I'm sure he do all the nessesary actions and the gamesave he sends me is fine. So the problem should be on my side. Tried to open it on three different computers - still the same. Last turn when it happend I asked him to re-process the turn and on a second attempt it worked. But now I got new save and the same problem. Am I missing something? Just run out of thoughts on how it can happen this way...

Game version is 1.60.

Alex.

I ran into this same sort of thing when I first began doing PBEM. From the sounds of it, you've already played a couple of turns so what you're dealing with is most likely your opponent forgetting one step.

When either of you complete your moves after viewing the combat round, you need to ADVANCE the turn by hitting the red triangle button on the task bar (just left of the middle on the top of the screen). This key will take the player to the save game screen and exits the game so it can be emailed.

If you save and exit, WITP assumes you still have moves to make and the player that sent you the file still hasn't completed his/her turn.

Try and have them ensure that button is toggled before emailing you the save. Then you should be fine.

Also, if this is your first turn and either you or the Japanese player hit "historical first turn", there is no moves to make. You both will go immediately to save the game and email it back and forth. However the above step I mentioned (turn advance) is critical. Without it, the turns don't move and you have no game.

Hope that helps.

I'll tell you what I do at least twice a month. Normally, my e-mail stays open, and when a new turn is in and I go to save the attachment, the directory for the attachment save is already set to the SAVE directory. If I've restarted the computer/e-mail, I occasionally forget to browse to the SAVE directory, and end up saving the turn in some default location. Witp still has the turn I sent in the SAVE location. Usually, I catch this myself but at least once I told my e-mail partner he sent the wrong turn before I remembered what I did. [:@]

When it asks for the other players password it means they didn't end the turn.
Instead they just did a normal save.[;)]

Alex, I had this problem when I played UV PBEM. Check your save folder. You must have only 1 file (for each slot). If it is duplicated (and that's why I was experiencing these problems in UV) it will not work and ask the password of the other player. So check your save folder. If the savegame file is duplicated delete the wrong one, just in case [:)]

Halsey -> RE: Gamesave problem (7/9/2005 7:29:55 PM)

Didn't think of that. I figured everyone overwrites the old files when downloading.[:D]

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Gamesave problem (7/9/2005 7:34:16 PM)

This happened in UV, Halsey, that's all I can say. Turn sent => copy to save folder => it does not work => you check save folder => and voilą: it is duplicated [:)]

Halsey -> RE: Gamesave problem (7/9/2005 7:42:10 PM)

So what do you do at the VC?
Are you a Landschneck?

Did I spell that right?[:D]

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Gamesave problem (7/9/2005 7:45:24 PM)

What in the world is "VC"? And a "Landschneck"?

Halsey -> RE: Gamesave problem (7/9/2005 7:49:33 PM)

VC= Vatican City
Landschneck= Swiss Guards.

I guess you answered my question.[:D]
Just curious.

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Gamesave problem (7/9/2005 7:52:36 PM)

Oh, I see. Nah, I wanted to get the [deceased] Pope's job, but it did not work. I've been told the current boss has one foot and a half in the coffin, so here I stay... just in case [:D]

Halsey -> RE: Gamesave problem (7/9/2005 7:58:52 PM)

Patience is "The" supreme virtue.
You'll make a good Pope.[;)]

AlexCobra -> RE: Gamesave problem (7/10/2005 12:12:01 PM)

Hi,
Thanks everyone for advices... but I checked all this things before posting the tread.[:(] First thing that came to mind was that he just saved the game without ending the turn - but no, like I said before, he did all the nessesary moves... including 'End turn' button. My 'save' folder was checked dozens of times and I tried loading it on different machines, so this can't be the problem. Right now all I can think about is re-installing the game from scratch... but I fear the will be no good in this - cause now it works with other saves and only this slot is cursed.[:@]

Alex.

DFalcon -> RE: Gamesave problem (7/10/2005 5:35:03 PM)

Do you always use the same slot for the save game? If so it might have something to do with the XP permissions coved in another thread.

Mr.Frag -> RE: Gamesave problem (7/10/2005 6:52:15 PM)

sned me the save so I can tell you for sure that it is actually you and not him.

AlexCobra -> RE: Gamesave problem (7/10/2005 9:41:34 PM)

Ok,
1) yes, we use the same slot, but no, I have read about this before and checked this too.
2) sending.

Mr.Frag -> RE: Gamesave problem (7/11/2005 1:15:24 AM)

File you sent is a Allied turn.

AlexCobra -> RE: Gamesave problem (7/11/2005 2:05:02 PM)

Well, it looks like that. But my opponent says he ended the turn ordinary. Properly. Rightfully. So this should be Jap turn - but it's not! That's what I'm talking about... Ok, I think we try to sort it out somehow... suppose there can't be much help in situation like this... Probably we should start the game from the beginning.

Mr.Frag -> RE: Gamesave problem (7/11/2005 5:40:31 PM)

have him end the turn and save to an emptry slot. See if that fixes it.

AlexCobra -> RE: Gamesave problem (7/11/2005 5:59:54 PM)

Ok, we get back one turn and re-do it... Received the file - opened fine. We'll see how the next one will do. Thanks!

Alex.

Mr.Frag -> RE: Gamesave problem (7/12/2005 2:33:37 PM)

I assume you are windows xp?

did you change which userid you logged in as?

AlexCobra -> RE: Gamesave problem (7/12/2005 3:27:21 PM)

Hi

Yes, XP user I am. And I always use admin account - there's no other id's. If correctly understood I.

Now waiting for the adversary to return me the turn - if this time the same problem happens, I'll be very upset... but there's always hope[:)]!

Alex.

Mr.Frag -> RE: Gamesave problem (7/12/2005 8:27:44 PM)

XP SP2 added a bunch of security stuff. Right-Click on the one giving you a hard time and pick Properties.

Right at the bottom of that panel, you might see stuff like that shown in the picture. If it shows blocked, unblock it. If it shows Read-only, uncheck it.

AlexCobra -> RE: Gamesave problem (7/14/2005 2:12:05 PM)

Hi!

Thank u very much, Mr. Frag. I'm aware of the properties u'r talking about, and I think we finished with problem... for now. I received the gamesave from the opponent and it opened fine. So we'll proceed and hope for the better...

Alex.
