pirata432000 -> Windows XP Problem (1/28/2002 10:07:00 AM)

I had a 500Mhz system with Windows 98 and SPWAW Version 7.0 worked fine. I now have a Athlon 1800+ with Windows XP and now all I get is the introduction and the ending credits. The game never goes to the Main battle screen. What happened? I have tired the compatibility modes without success. I love the game and I need to fix this problem. Any help out there?

Have you tried to run the game via the "MECH.exe" file thats in the game's root folder? Please try that and see if it works.

I tried the "Mech.exe" file. The screen goes dark and then after a few seconds returns to the main windows screen.

Hi, Do you run the game in Win98/Me compability mode? Regards, Lars

I have tried all the compatibility modes. I still get the same result.

Hi could you please post more of your system specs. Graphic card, sound card, all the stuff you have. Also the driver versions of your graphics card and from where you got them please? I don´t think that it is an CPU/OS problem as SPWaW runs very stable on my machine (Athlon+XP)

pirata432000 -> (1/30/2002 8:29:00 AM)

System Spec's are as follows:
Gigabyte GA-7DXR+ Motherboard
Athlon 1800+ Processor
256MB Registered ECC RAM
Nvidia GeForce MX/MX400 32MB PCI Video Card
Nvidia 2.3.1.1 Drivers
Sound Blaster Live Value
Creative 3509.2.0.0 Drivers
IBM ATA-100 7200rpm 41GB Hard Drive
USB Mouse
USB Keyboard

Try deleting the steel.prf file in SPWAW/save folder than restart game. It also may be a DirectX problem, if I'm not mistaken XP installs 8.1a which has known to be buggy.

SPWAW 7.0 is working correctly now. I removed the SB Live card and updated the video driver. I have had problems in the past with the SB Live card. Thanks to everyone for their help!

Marc von Martial -> (1/30/2002 9:30:00 PM)

Hi, yup, video driver updating is very essential. You can´t stress enough on that.
What surprises me is the Live problem. I have the card myself and never had any troubles with it.

I've had problems with other games with conflicts with nVidia video cards with SoundBlaster Live. Could be related? (That's even with the latest drivers)

Möbius -> (2/10/2002 9:41:00 AM)

I am running 1400 Athlon 266FSB and XP and SPwaw 7 works perfectly. Drivers for any hardware is important. I have as listed:
Athlon 1400
256 DDR PC2100
ASUS A7M266
SB Live
G Force2 Mx400 64MB AGP x4
Netgear FA310TX Ethernet
2 MatroX ATA 100 HD's (1 45GB, 1 60GB)
TDK 24/10/42 CDRW
Panasonic LS120 I selected parts based on compatibility THe Nvidia Card is great but actually has slower 2D performance than my Matrox G450 32MB AGP4 card. But I made sure all Drivers for XP were installed too. The problem can stem from the Motherboard as well so it is good to do alittle homework before buying the latest greatest stuff as it doesn't always work.
Good luck
