Latour_Maubourg -> Annoying campaign bug (7/12/2005 1:02:04 AM)

I play the French starting 1796. The Austrians attack in Burgundy. I beat them. You'd expect to return to german soil. But no they end up in soissons. I persue and beat them there. You'd expect them to end up at least in Burgundy, nope in Paris.
I saw this before and tried to prevent it with leaving some infantry in "empty" provinces. Didn't work. It might be me but I find it very unrealistic that after a defeat they move deeper land inwards...... Imagine after the defeat of Austerlitz the Austrian/Russian army marched towards Paris and after several defeats took the city! Can this please be changed in a patch?

If you leave even a signle division in the open of an area, the enemy will not be retreated to that area. If you leave a division in every possible area for them to retreat into, they all surrender.

This is working in my games in 1.0 - if you have a situation where it didnt, please capture a screen shot and log on the support thread as a bug.

I did what you said..but no luck. It has to do with enemy size. Took me 4 battles to get rid of them. But if it happens again Ill try to capture a screenshot. The problem is it all happens during movement phase. So you only see the quick battle screen with a lot of enemies and one didsion of mine.

Your not alone it happens to me too, aggh,, defeated unit should not be allowed to retreat behind you, should be forced to retreat back the way he came or atleast towards his capitol.

There are a dozen rules governing where defeated opponents retreat. They prefer to retreat to provinces they attacked from, then into friendly territory, then into territory containing friendly depots, etc. They should never be able to retreat into territory containing non-garrisoned enemy divisions. The retreat toward capital may be a good rule to add to the list.

Problem is: one can hardly defend its country...very annoying. I was attacked from all sides I beat them all but they kept on going more and more land inwards.. Spare divisions or not. I Hope they adress this beacuse it takes a lot of fun out of it.

It appears from your example that the enemy unit not only retreated into your territory but also leap-frogged over a couple of occupied provinces. It appears from your screenshots that the unit did not retreat into a province containing one of your units, but instead somehow jumped over those provinces to the first of your provinces that did not contain one of your units. Is that what happened?

So, what is being described here is more of an out and out bug than anything else........
