ahauschild -> Province Surrener Question (7/13/2005 5:45:15 AM)

Have another question, this one about what influences the surrender of a province.

I have had all kind of combinations on this, Small Army against small gun and wall with little garrison, or large army seems to be totaly random if they surrender before they lose all their defending foces.

I make it a point ussuly to stock my garrsons as soon as possible with regular infantry, and relative often I see some enemy army move into my province with 4 wall and 4 gun average and 2 to 4 inf garrison, and after one round of siege they just give up.

What affects the surrender chance, courts? Culture? Troop quality, anything?

There is a small chance that any besieged province will surrender outright each round. I added this when I read about the surrender of Sveaborg when the Russians invaded Sweden, around 1809 IIRC. From a game consideration, it adds to game tension by making every siege a potential immediate threat.

Morale of troops doesn't affect anything. So militia are just as effective at holding off a siege as guard units. Guns are the only development type that directly affects siege outcome, though walls determine how many units can be garrisoned.

Ok, clears things up. I was desperatly trying to stop this from happening, lost 4 provinces that where uber garrisoned with great guns like this, and started wondering if it made any sense at all to spend the resources for it. Guess I just got really unlucky.
