Ok, the game was played on normal settings, 15 years, balanced scenario. Of course, being German I played the Prussians.

Overall Sweden, Brittan, Russia, France and Austria continiued to declare war on me, with me again and again pounding them into the ground. I really have not figured out a way that I would lose a Tactical Battle against the Computer. Turkey and Spain left me alone, but the odd part is, I could never declare war on Turkey, even when they moved about 700k of troops into Berlin and stayed there for pretty much 2 or 3 years. They would sally out once in a while to squash russia or Austria after I pounded them, but they just seemed to like parking their troops in Berlin.

I tried ultimatumes, declare war for tresspassing, tresspassing on their land and refusing to leave, nope, my war declarations against them never where taken serious. I suspect the Sultan was in his palace, and whenever my messenger came to declare war, he musta just send him to his hareem to never be seen again.

Also the vic condition was highst glory, and I did end up with the highest glory, but the game told me the next turn that I did not achive my goal, bug?

Some thoughts.

Russia, Austria and Sweden had a death wish. I could see the first war, they had full troops and had a chance, but they pretty much kept declaring war on me after the cool of period, even if they had only their home province left, and their combined army was less then one of my corps. This needs to be looked at. I really wanted to squash the french and try a grab for England, but had to keep diverting my two main armys from sweden, to russia to Austria, never really fighting any big battles anymore, they had no troops, but to occupy the home province and to get them to surrender so I could continiue with the real conquest.

Countries that have no offensive armys to speak of, and posibly still have low moral from surrendering to another country, should not be so gung ho to get into war again.

Maybe they need to compare the countries army, but multiplying each units personal against that units moral factor, then adding it all up. Do the same with their own, and if the numbers are realy stacked against them, they would not declare war. Also maybe they should have a minimum army requirement to declare war. Example a 60k army at home and a 100 k army to attack with.

I contribute the large part of lands i captured to the idiotic gung ho mentaly of the AI, if he does not like you, he will declare war against you, even if you have less then 0% chance of winning this war.

Not very realistic there, I mean, lets face it, half of the middle east countries hate England and the USA's guts, but they would never declare an open war on the usa because they know they have no chance in hell to win.

So two things I think need to be looked at. Why did Turkey and I have this invunerable declare war state.
And why did the totaly beaten nations, down to one province and probl less then 60k in low moral troops against a country that had 600k of the highest quality troops continiue to declare war.

Oh, and forgot, the mini map shows the same color for Turkey and Austria, Austria in fact only has their capitol left, the rest of the tan areas are Turkey.

Thanks for that.

There are minimum army reqs for the AI to issue DOW, and the AI also considers morale/strength and several other factors. The way the AI is getting roped into bad DOW's in the games I play are via the AI cooperation rules (the coalitions et al.)

Thanks for the feedback, 1835 huh? Nice long game, this was with the 1820 fictional balanced scenario I assume?

I have a question about the function of sending an ultimatum. If a target nation takes it seriously, what is it going to do? I experienced a situation as follows:
My France received Austria's limited surrender, after which I granted it territorial passage. While its corps were everywhere in southern France, the enforced-peace clause expired. A pop-up came out to ask me how to react to its violating behaviour and I decided on an ultimatum. In the couple of turns afterwards such pop-ups kept appearing. How could I tell if Austria had taken my ultimatums seriously and was about to do something about it? (I suggest designers should program AI so I can know about its response, instead of receiving monthly pop-ups and looking very closely at the target nation's movements to try to read its mind.)
Besides, my French troops were on Austria's soil, why could I still have the option of declaring war on it?

If they decide to withdraw their troops then the withdrawal happens instantly and automatically.

Maybe I failed to highlight what I am really concerned about. My France has granted Austria right to passage, how come my receiving warnings about Austrian trespass?

Some diplomatic actions and treaties seem to be quirky at tiems.

Good to know that the AI will take in consideration the enemy armed forces strength, but I think it happens to often, so if he is doing duo to alliences, he needs to reconsider the alliance, possible if he is allready bellow -500 moral and does not have a minimum amount of troops availible.

Yes, the game was the Balanced, with the 15 year option and max glory the vic condition. But as stated, even that I had more points by far then turkey, the following turn i got the message that I did not have enough to win. Must be another quirk.

Overall it was fun, especialy at the start, as I trully had to be on my toes to succed in squashing assaults from all sides. I still dont like the fact that Brittan stays at war for you for the duration, as they will never bring you down to surrender, and with prussia it is a bitch to invade and siege London.

Latour_Maubourg -> RE: Prussia Wins - Thoughts and Ending Picture (7/15/2005 1:47:02 AM)

Hummm. My thoughts are. Prussia is a kind of left out nation. Everybody looks at Austria and Russia. Which were the main Eastern European powers. My opinian is that Prussia is too strong. Let's not forget that the Prussians still thought that they were the best army in Europe because of Frederick the great. But in reality thye never modernized their army and were hopessly behind the rest of europe and that's why they got their butt kicked in a huge way at Jena/Auerstedt in 1806 . So what I do when I start a new game I put Prussia just like Spain, Sweden and Turkey at much weaker because that was the case at that time.
