dereck -> How to Raise Morale? (7/16/2005 7:19:30 AM)

I've seen my morale in one base consistently go down and would like to know what I could do to attempt to raise it up and also be able to provide a way for the units to receive replacements rather than just keep losing them.

Here is information about the base and units in question:

Lunga:
--- Supplies: 56,721
--- Supplies Required: 14,900
--- Fuel: 75,221
--- Fuel Required: 48,500

--- Support: 701
--- Support Required: 269
--- Aviation Support: 253
--- Aviation Support Required: 250

Port - 5; Airfield - 7; Aircraft on base: 307

13th Air Force HQ (BGEN Twining, Leadership 60 - Inspiration 61)
--- Morale: 39

131st Aviation Regiment (COL Nelson, Leadership 47 - Inspiration 50)
--- Morale: 39

828th Engineer Aviation Battalion (LTC Hyde, Leadership 51 - Inspiration 57)
--- Morale: 35

37th USA/A Division (MGEN Beightler, Leadership 71 - Inspiration 69)
--- Morale: 98 (the 37th Division has just replaced the 1st USMC Division as a garrison unit)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

You've got it pretty well covered.

Your supplies are more than 2x. And your support is greater then required.

FWIW -
a. Leaders with high Inspiration will help to recover moral faster.
b. Lunga is a Malaria base, so that's going to be keep at least your fatigue in the 30s. I suppose that Moral might be tied to Fatigue (like Fatigue is tied to Disruption). Fatigue will go down slower than Disruption (and slower or halt if Disruption is high). Could be the same between moral and fatigue. Marlaria keeps your fatige in 30s, so your moral never improves beyond a certain point.

Best guess.

But from the looks of it, you're doing all you can do.

dereck -> RE: How to Raise Morale? (7/16/2005 8:28:08 AM)

What is confusing me though is I had the 1st USMC/A Division and 1st USMC/B Division units in Lunga and their morale stayed up in the 70s.

I'm also worried/wondering about why it seems I can't bring up unit strengths - for example my aviation regiment is at:

Aviation Support (17) x253
Support (28) x242

I know Lunga is a malarial zone and don't expect to be able to keep units at 100% strength but I shouldn't be hemorraging strength either just with garrison units either.

I'll try replacing the leaders with high inspiration but any idea how long it will be before I see a change?

Marines are tougher...[:D]

The Dude -> RE: How to Raise Morale? (7/16/2005 6:06:12 PM)

Was it not said in another thead that if the combined AF and Port size of a base is equal to or greater than 10 than a malaria base acts as a tremperate base with all attendant benefits?

dereck -> RE: How to Raise Morale? (7/16/2005 6:06:52 PM)

Yes but since I'm ex-Navy, even though I privately agree with you I can't publically admit it [:D]

Question (this is a joke): How do you kill a marine?
Answer: Throw sand on the wall and yell "HIT THE BEACH!"

rogueusmc -> RE: How to Raise Morale? (7/16/2005 9:26:45 PM)

Give a Marine alcohol and his morale will stay up regardless of where he is...[:D]

dereck -> RE: How to Raise Morale? (7/16/2005 9:35:57 PM)

Sad but true story about a Marine and alcohol ...

When the Midway pulled into Perth, Australia (which in my time - the80s - had the reputation as the best liberty port in the Western Pacific and actually caused a number of chiefs and officers to postpone retirements so they could visit there), there was one Marine photographer from the Marine recon squadron (VMPF-3) who took leave and spent the ENTIRE inport period in the same bar. He never left and stayed there 24/7.

It was a shame too because he missed a great liberty port. I would routinely go ashore with plenty of cash and, after eating, sightseeing and other stuff, would come back to the ship with as much money as I left with - if they knew you were an American off the Midway you couldn't seem to give your money away.

I do have to admit the beer there was good [:D] ... my memory is foggy [8|] but I think it was called Swan Lake Beer.

BillBrown -> RE: How to Raise Morale? (7/16/2005 9:43:43 PM)

I think more flogging is required at Lunga to get the moral up. [:D]

Captain Cruft -> RE: How to Raise Morale? (7/16/2005 10:07:22 PM)

High exp helps with morale. This applies to air groups and LCUs.

Those disabled values for the aviation unit don't look out of line for a malaria base. The size 10 theory doesn't hold up in my experience and the code Frag posted wasn't clear.

rogueusmc -> RE: How to Raise Morale? (7/16/2005 10:15:58 PM)

I think the size 10 thing was that the morale and fatigue stopped going down because of malaria...I don't think it works like a non malarial base for bringing them back up...they just don't go down anymore because of malaria.

Feinder -> RE: How to Raise Morale? (7/16/2005 11:04:15 PM)

I am quite sure that the size 10 thing does -NOT- work at all. I know the snip of code you're talking about, and the first time I saw it, I thought, "Hey Cool!".

But maybe that code is never being hit or whatever. Because for all that I've ever seen (and I've check/rechecked extensively), once malaria, always malaria, no matter how big you build the facilities.

Yup. Unfortunately.

Mooshh -> RE: How to Raise Morale? (7/17/2005 3:47:56 AM)

I thought the combined size of 10 or more only effected spoilage nothing else!
Nothing kill's morale like spoiled beer.

It's the same at the McAluffe Hotel in Bastogne, Belgium. All you have to do is show a copy of orders or wear your Class "A"s with the 101st patch on them and they treat you like royalty. As long as I stayed in the hotel/bar I didn't have to spend a dime. Helped even more when they found out my Grandfather was there during the war.

genchoo -> RE: How to Raise Morale? (7/28/2005 3:49:20 AM)

Yes, its true about Marines. give them plenty of jungle juice and a young seaman to dance with and
Morale will stay high-----------as long as the seaman can due a two step :)

scott64 -> RE: How to Raise Morale? (7/28/2005 7:36:19 AM)

found this in a doc on another thread

Bases in Malaria / Cold Zones with combined Port + Airfield size >= 8 cancels disabling of LCUs elemenets

do not know if it is true or not or tested [8|]

Clarification:

Rule Clarification: The rule that says bases in malaria and cold zones are exempt from the penalties applies to bases with a maximum normal airfield build size of 9 or more. Building facilities at bases with smaller maximum normal airfield or port sizes will not negate the penalty, but will somewhat ameliorate the problem.

How many bases are there with a NORMAL airfield build size of 9??

Not that many I guess. Those with a normal build size of 9 are in a temperate zone anyway.

Arkan -> RE: How to Raise Morale? (7/28/2005 1:36:03 PM)

I think the clarification is not clear enough. If I remember the code right, it's the added normal (SPS) sizes of airfield and port. If that is correct then there are some bases on the map, e.g. Rabaul, Camranh Bay, Haiphong.

michaelm75au -> RE: How to Raise Morale? (7/28/2005 5:37:13 PM)

This is the code snipet.

quote:

// city has drained swamps
if(gPlace[base].size>8) answer=false;

The size is the SPS of the airfield at the base (according to Mike Woods).
It is not the combined port and airfield.

Michael

Arkan -> RE: How to Raise Morale? (7/28/2005 6:17:14 PM)

Thanks for clarification, I must have missed Mike's explanation of the code.
This means there are no cities with drained swamps on the map, but there are some cities with heaters against the cold in Manchuoko.
