Cutman -> New Thought (maybe) on Aviation Support (7/18/2005 1:50:09 AM)

I know that this is an old subject and has been discussed many times on the forum. I am also not a programmer and do not even know if this is possible. Just have another idea and want to see if this is feasable and let the grogs chew it up a little.

One of my huge pet peaves is the abilty to move sqns/grps and have them attack same day. I know that this was done historically, but not in the scale that are sometimes used in the game.

Currently, all aviation support points are pulled from the base/HQS/Eng units that are at the airfield. Which allows you to move around thousands of aircraft if you set-up your structure right with only a morale hit. We all know that in reality each Sqn/Grp had its own mechanics and support that went around with it. Not just 24 pilots.

My wild idea is to add a very small LCU to each Sqn or Grp that would provide a very small Air Support point to that unit. A Sqn could be three and a Grp could be 6. Divible by three so they can be split.

- Pull these air support points from the HQs/base/eng units so that there is not an over abundance of air support. I am not saying to get rid of them just lower there overall value.

- Give them a small load cost. Small enough to move via transport aircraft to reflect what really occured. Would also need to add the abilty to transport your own SQN/Grp LCU for those aircraft that are currently in the game with the transport troops capability.

- If this LCU was seperated from the planes the unit would take huge maintenance hits to reflect reality and the replacement rate should be greatly slowed.

- If the LCU is destroyed/atrrited then the SQN/Grp LCU would have to meet the same requirements as any other LCU for replacements.

- For Ships. Have enough Load on each ship to count for the LCUs that come aboard.

I know I am still dreaming that this is maybe too much micromangement even for us. [:D]
