I have a question concerning the terminology of tank guns.
The PzKpfw - IIIj is listed as having:
50mm KwK L/42 as the main gun.
The PzKpfw - IIIm lists the:
50mm KwK 39 L/60 as its main gun.
The 50mm is the width of the barrel (caliber). While the L/42 and L/60 are the number of calibers long the barrel length is. The L/60 obviously being superior for armor penetration.
What does the KwK stand for? Why does the 'm' model have the number 39 after KwK and the 'j' model has no such designation?
Thanks in advance for the info.

Howdy
KwK = Kampfwagenkanone
There seems to be a typo in the gun name, the full name for the shorter 50mm gun is 50mm KwK 38 L/42
Again I'll recommend the www.achtungpanzer.com (no, I have nothing to do with that site)
