i also champion the pre pay idea, and i think you are undertaking a noble cause, however, im sticking my neck out as the first one to ask, do you know the extent of the delay and have a back up release date? This is by no means a 'whens it out call' its just so i can nudge the mrs in the ribs to get me a different christmas prezzie.......... very much looking forward to this game and ive never played the board game, simply the scope and the subject have brought me here........ good luck

I am willing to pre purchase if financial concerns are going to substantially impact the game in a negative manner. I don't know what the suggested price is, but I imagine its $100 or more.

Keep up the great work. This is my favorite game.

This game definately needs a release party at the end so everyone can meet each other and have a drink.

I thought It would be more like 90$..

About the bug with Vista, personally I use Windows XP 32 bits and I do not plan on installing that Vista crap. By the way Microsoft is developping Windows Seven as we speak suppposed to be available in 2010, just for information.

I never buy preorder.

Please don't rush the project, take the time you must. I am sure this bug and all the others will be resolved.

Patrice - Marseilles
Rob Armstrong - Australia
David Heath - Colorado
Erik Rutkins - Vermont
Dan Hatchen - Saskatchewan

Michael Andersen - Denmark
Andy - Idaho
Jesper - Belgium?
Wosung - Germany
... I apologize to dozens of others I did not mention here.

Using the least scientific formulae I could find, combined with my mathematics minor, I have triangulated Rio de Janeiro as the location requiring the least amount of travel yet smallest deviation of total miles (kilometers) traveled. I dares ya to disagree.[8D]

I also, as I have said in other posts, would be willing to pre-order; should Matrix Games revise its policy on the matter. I'm not sure how advance money would be a bad business model but maybe they could try it for this game.

Novi Michigan to Rio De Janeiro Brazil: 5,196 miles, 8360 Kilometers. as the crow flies. By land: about 9000 miles. Don't count me in for your party. I'm better off going to the nice sandy beaches of Hawaii where Steve is. It's closer.

paulderynck -> RE: When? (8/4/2008 10:58:54 PM)

I'm very happy with the "don't release it until it's right " philosophy. But if something had to go to make the job easier, I'd suggest the AI.

I have yet to see a game with a good AI and there aren't any games that I know of that are as complicated as this one, so the task of making a good AI could be unending. When that knowledge sits alongside the observations made about the need for Netplay, it seems to me players should place their efforts into establishing communities of opponents, rather than playing against the computer.

Wrong again! My life story. You had said something about Luxembourglast year and I made a bad assumption you lived nearby.

Since you bring up the topic of global travel ...

I had some students from Botswana when I was teaching in Honolulu. Now Botswana is precisely on the other side of the world from Honolulu, so when they flew home, they could stop in any city on the planet and it wouldn't be out of their way.

Perhaps NetPlay should be cut from release and pushed back to a patch?

Not a serious consideration. Too many want to play with friends they use to play with, but whose roads have lead them far apart.

I really like the rose.
---
I thank everyone for their support.[&o] Perhaps it should be said that the pressure to finish MWIF is entirely self-generated, to meet everyone's expectations. Matrix Games has applied zero pressure, leaving the decision of when to release MWIF entirely up to me.

"roads have led them far apart", "the rose"...sounds like part of a playlist at a John Denver concert or something [:'(]

Commercially, AI is a must. This has all been gone through ad nauseum.

TOAW 3 has a good AI. Conquest of the Aegean and Highway to the Reich have a good AI. Additionally, the AI is being helped by people with vast experience and expertise in WiF. For this, and other reasons I can't be bothered to repeat, this project is likely to have a good AI.

Cheers, Neilster

meisterchow -> RE: When? (8/6/2008 1:53:26 PM)

Take some time and look through the forums. Look at the screenshots. Again. And again. Fantastic progress is being made, and myself, not having the joy of being a beta tester, have found myself playing CWiF again just to scratch the itch. I now have two games going (one at home and one at work). :)

For curiosity sake, what is TOAW3? I am always looking for PC games with good AI.

Thanks, Michel.

The Operational Art of War 3. It's a Matrix game. TOAW 3 is a major improvement (especially the AI) of an established wargame construction system. It comes with dozens and dozens of scenarios in various scales and from about 1850ish to 2015ish. More can be downloaded for free.

Cheers, Neilster

jesperpehrson -> RE: When? (8/6/2008 4:13:54 PM)

TOAW is a really good game, try it if you havenīt.

micheljq -> RE: When? (8/6/2008 9:24:27 PM)

My god did I hear Operationnal Art of War?  It is a PC game I played on my first computer, an Atari 520ST, back in 1987!  I did played the first version.

geozero -> RE: When? (8/6/2008 9:29:39 PM)

WiF will be the next awesome game to last many many years.  I tried the Alpha version years back, and salivate at the progress that's been made.  This will truly be a great game.  My only reservation is the map graphics...while staying true to the original boardgame, they're a bit...less pleasing than what could be done.

I WANT THIS NOW!!![:D]

Funny how no one wants to answer you? The predicted dates bounce between the Origins convention and Christmas. The last 'official' prediciton was Christmas 2008, but someone with quasi-authority wrote recently 'around Christmas', which leads me to guess it will be Origins 2009 at the earliest.

Plainian -> RE: When? (8/8/2008 11:15:28 PM)

In the late 80's (ok lets say 1987) there were very few decent wargames I could play on my ZX Spectrum. Any I found I played to death.
These days there is a game a month appearing. I can't aford to buy them nor do I have the time to play them all properly?

We are living in a PC wargames age of abundance and yet people seem to be getting more short tempered that they can't have what they want right now?

Its only a game. Who cares when it comes out? It comes out when its ready.

And yes possibly I am taking liberties by calling a ZX Spectrum with 48K ram a PC.

Sorry for stating the obvious here, but it seems rather useless to answer these questions from this trolling character, cause if he cannot read and understand the updates on progress made by Steve why should he be able to do the same to any answers made here?

I completely agree! As several people have written, its better for this product to come out ready, than to rush it out as was the case with EiA. Actually many people care when it comes out...just look at the title of this thread and the many responses to it. It would be nice if the developer could give a time estimation at the bottom of his very in depth and detailed monthly report. No harm in that eh? Although I doubt that will happen since I suggested it.

Sorry to disappoint you - the time estimate is given at the top of the report.

jesperpehrson -> RE: When? (8/9/2008 1:59:57 AM)

I am at a loss of words [:D]. Is reading really that hard?

wworld7 -> RE: When? (8/9/2008 2:38:26 AM)

Sometimes people see what they want to see.

I am fine with no estimate of when MWIF will be ready (I know others would not be) if it will prevent repeated comments on how the estimate was wrong.

When it is ready I will be to.

Very good, I appologize. Then this should be the answer given to anyone asking "when".

I'd add that this is the kind of complaining that brought EiA to the players in a non finished looking state.
The EiA forums were full of that, all year long, for years. Only complaining people.
Let's keep on ignoring that and keep making the game advancing.
