Thank you.

Change the "B" columns (where the names go) on both air group sheets to text format. Looks like the "=" symbols were what was different.

It doesn't create a "WitPExcel" menu on the toolbar? It should create a temporary menu where is usually between the "Windows" and "Help" menus.

Edit: Nevermind [:)]

another request
this can be a very confusing area for moders
aircraft data sheet there is a missing column that is needed to indicate which Bitmap the aircraft slot is using most of the slot/bitmaps line up eg slot one = bitmap 1
but from slot 200 onwards you will find in one case 3 slots are using the same bit map
for slots 246 to 249 the are no matching bitmaps available so you have to refer to bitmaps other than the slot number - so could we have a column added to pull in the bitmap data which is in the database

Cobra Aus

I added this to version 1.2 which I just sent to Spooky. Also removed Protection from the database worksheets so "Merge and Compare" should now work. 1.2 includes all of the fixes to the oddities that you all have discovered and the bells and whistles you have asked for to date.

CobraAus -> RE: WitPExcel editor is ready (8/2/2005 1:08:23 AM)

ok now using 1.2 the only problem I have now relates to when using get all get all allied ship data stops at row 6974/slot9969 instead of gong through to 10000 - when you look at the allied ship sheet you also seemed to have stopped copying formulas at 6973 so you have to extend the formulas for type.location.bitmap down to 10000 as in CHS sen 155 1.02 I now using this range for Russian ships but not picking up the dat to save back - also still havibg probelem in first line missing the CV header as previous reported

I did that intentionally because the last 25 or so slots had data in some of the columns. If you are certain those slots are fair game for us to edit and that data was refuge, then I can easily extend the range to 9999.

Which scenarios are resulting in the ships being shifted a slot?

I just checked manual again Allied slots rang from 3000 to 9999
I have created russian ships in the range 9818 to 9997 these now apprear in game and are working ok so the last 25 slots are ok to use

sen 155 CHS 1.02 and sen 158 which is beening built off 155

I have e-mailed sen 155 and 158 to you for testing( they wont work in game just as a Sen you need all of the CHS package but will be ok for testing in Excel)

3000 should be in slot 3001 and should be CV header if you look further down the sheet (not in sample) it is picking up other headers such as CVL's ok now if you save this back every thing will be out of plase by 1 slot number..see sample below.. solution needed

I have found the missing line is the last line on the Japanese ship sheet instead of the first line on the Allied sheet

I just emailed 1.3 to Spooky's. I added a Pilot editor and fixed the Allied Ship problem. The problem was actually for standard game as well as CHS, but it was that the author for those scenarios had moved the Allied ships that revealed the mistake on my part. Also fixed some status bar messaging issues that you likely didn't even notice was broken anyway.

DOH! I just realized that I didn't add the Pilots to the toolbar menu options. Bah. Pilots can still be done with the Misc sheet buttons until another need rises to the level of yet another revision.

You never did say whether or not removing the Protection allowed you to do the Compare and Merge or not.

Thanks for the feedback; it isn't just the skeleton database editor that I originally set out to make for this game. Access would be a more appropriate and faster application for editing the size of these databases, but I feel Excel is more user friendly, versatile and not many people ever open Access a second time.

CobraAus -> RE: WitPExcel editor is ready (8/6/2005 1:57:02 PM)

first report on 1.3
problem 1
locations - only showing locations 216 to 931 should be 1 to 3999 which is breaking location
reporting in other sheets (I am just wondering if the sheet you where working on had the location sheet filtered to only a few location and not all)(I have tried refiltering to show all bbut on the above mentioned slots appear)
problem 2
Allied ships and formulas sheet
you need to copy down from slot 6980 to 7004 the TYPE,LOCATION,BITMAP formulas
the same for the Formula sheet columns Q,R,S

now this may relate to problem 1
in both the Japanese and Allied Air groups there are strange location slot numbers appearing
in the ranges of 4000 to 8000 which are not in editor database and are of course not reporting locations

these problems are common to all sheets created from original excel 1.3 sheet

cant test much further until these are fixed

I just wondering if we just work together on this until we get it right before sending to Spookies again ??

ladner -> RE: WitPExcel editor is ready (8/6/2005 5:03:20 PM)

I have been extensive use of the editor, and I find it a lot easier to use than the tools provided with the game. I have one quick question, for I do not wish to mess up many hours worth of work. If I add a row in the LCU worksheet will it have any adverse effects? I was going to add a slot for US Airborne Div., but if doing so would create major problems then I am not going to pursue it.

The locations problem on the air group sheets is one of formatting. Just format all the columns except "B" where "Name" is as NUMBER with "0" decimals.

Before I delve deeper into the missing locations issue, I need to know if you Synchronized Bases (from the toolbar menu) after loading a new scenario?

Michael Fleshman

I am glad you are finding the editor useful.

I assume that you intend to not just create a new LCU, but also to define it as a formation type. You can do both, but alter existing rows rather than inserting new rows. If you are modding a scenario where all of the formation slots are already used and neccessary, an option for Abn units is to use an existing light infantry formation and add "13" into the units' "_sym" field.

In short, inserting new rows will have adverse results. Modifying existing rows is fine most of the time (including blank rows and those that tell us the following units are in "Osaka" or wherever). There are some unit slots that the AI will not let go of regardless of what we enter into the database.

I hope that helps.

sorry mate but this is what I am trying to get my head around
in the allied air groups sheet if you look at slot 1812 it = Ag VF-2 and in colomn G has a loc of 7001 which when calulated shows a location of IJA SQR Infantry (returned by Formula Y30)
VF-2 as per WITP Editor is located on CV Lexington LOC 3001
1st question is looking down from slot 1812 colomn G locs are all in the 7000+ range which is pulled in with the Get Function WHAT IS THIS 7000 RANGE MEAN IN TERMS OF AIR GROUPS LOCATION IN GAME this is not making scence should not the GET Function return 3001 etc as in the example above ???
IJA SQR Infantry can be found in the LOC Sheet at slot 930

Hope this makes sence as I am getting lost trying to work this out

I see now. Y30 of the Formulas sheet should be:
=IF(VLOOKUP('Allied Air Grps'!$A$2,AlliedAirGrps,7)<3000,VLOOKUP(VLOOKUP('Allied Air Grps'!$A$2,AlliedAirGrps,7),Locations,2),VLOOKUP(VLOOKUP('Allied Air Grps'!$A$2,AlliedAirGrps,7)-4000,AlliedShips,2))

Air groups based on naval vessels have 4000 added to their location.

I can't find any problems in the Loc sheet. Did you ever Synchronize Bases? If you do not do that after loading a scenario, the locations could be completely screwed up. The synchronizing matches up the bases to the hexes and you can imagine how different those match ups are between a CHS scenario and a standard scenario.

Michael Fleshman

By loading scenario I take it that means loading in the spreadsheet, set pathing up do a Get All THEN SYNC the LOCS if it is, then I will do that BUT matchups is not what I mean as they seem alright but in the WITP Editor there are 3999 slots to put Locations into but in the spreadsheet there is only slots 216 to 931 (unless the original sheet was filtered to show only those slots and we just cant see the others) we are missing nealy 3200 slots, my problem. is say if you were to save a Scenario back to an totally empty Dat file only slots 216 to 931 would appear in it, or put in a new location via the editor into a slot outside the spreadsheets range the Get Data would not pull the new location into the spread sheet

Just downloaded version 1.3, as I told you I´m very interested in editing huge numbers of pilots - saw the new tab - hit the "get pilots" button, but............ old pilots remain!!! Not a single one from my modified scenario has been loaded!!! Same problem when using the "put pilots" button.
What am I doing wrong or missing? Thank you for the great work!

Used the sync airplanes with airgroups feature and it works beautifully, also used the find leaders command and was succesful, except for some Russian leaders I have assigned to base force LCU´s and that are assigned for sure under the LCU tab, but not under the leader tab.

Ohhhhh.

0-215 from the Locations file is WitPExcel's HQ sheet
933-1998 is the Jap LCUs sheet
2000-2999 is the Allied LCUs sheet
3500-4000 is the TF sheet

WitPExcel breaks the wpl.dat into pieces to make it easier to work with.

Michael Fleshman

I enabled the Get and Put for Pilots on the toolbar Menu and the Get All/Put All Misc sheet buttons, but forgot to do it on the Misc sheet Pilot buttons. My mistake.

With the leaders Sync feature, it assumes that Jap leaders are in slots 1-7138 and Allied leaders in the remaining slots. Revision 1.4 will assume Jap leaders are 1-7145 and Allies in 7146-19999 to account for the 10 or so leaders who are mingled in the "wrong" area for my purposes.
