NemRod -> Importance of cruise speed for AC. (8/8/2005 11:53:35 AM)

Is cruise speed important to estimate the value of an aircraft ? Is it important just for some missions? Does it increase the number of aircraft joining combat?
Exemples:
P38G has a very high max speed but a very low cruise speed, does it matter?
P40 and Tony seem nearly equals except for cruise speed and climb rate. I understand that climb rate will put more planes in the air, but what will do cruise speed?

Same question for endurance, is it usefull to know it if you already know the range?
Thanks.

I believe the effectiveness of an air mission depends on how long the aircraft can remain over the target. Hence, both cruise speed and endurance effect this calculation

Max range (in hexes) is calculated as a product of cruise speed and endurance, than divided by 3600. Than, both extended and normal range are calculated from max range.
Also, I think I read somewhere that cruise speed effects strike plane's chance to find it's target.
