I have some troops with 'cowardly morale', how do I improve that state of affairs?

I assume winning some battles will help?

Also I have my recruiting set such that my draftee's have 5.2 morale, will that help too?

Hard Sarge -> RE: Morale (8/10/2005 10:25:54 PM)

yes that will help, as long as they draw reinforcements

if you have troops in a Province, you can always trade men back and forth between units

you can also upgrade a Mil unit into a Inf unit this way

just remember, putting Mil troops at 1.70 morale into a Inf unit at 5.70 is going to lower the Inf morale

but say, you have 3 Inf at 4.50 morale, and 3 Inf at 3.20 morale and each has around 7000 men in them, you can take say 1500 men from each unit and move them around (IE move troops from Inf to Mil and then Mil to Inf)

the next turn, as long as they don't move, you should have 6 Inf units, around 4.00 morale

overall, early game this can be importent, or right after a HARD battle, when your fighting troops need men and you got spare troops in the city

but it can help out countrys that get alot of Mil

Yes. After a couple of victories you will see your units at various morale levels. Your militia might even turn into regular infantry that way.

This might be a little too much. Well, it depends on your preference mostly, but notice that as you increase draftee morale, the number of availabe men drops severely. This might lead to a shortage of replacements if you have a particularly bloody campaigning season. Some nations with relatively small populations are particularly vulnerable to troop shortages. So yes, increase your draft morale, but be aware you can be caught without replacements (I usually keep my draft morale at 4.5 for you average nations).

Carnifex and Hard Sarge are right as usual... keep an eye on the numbers in your draft pool, you will always need troops as replacements, if you have plenty you can crank up the settings, if you are in a long and bloody war you may need to rush them through basic and send them up to the front. I always check the pop up supply box and the draft info in the economy screen (well I try to remember to check!)

Thanks chaps, I didn't know you could move blokes about between units (wouldn't get away with that now [:-])

I found I could bump up the draft to increase the number of troops but of course then I blew my cash reserves on susidizing others and I'm broke, so a reduction in morale will have to be made.

But the complicated balancing act is all part of the fun.... isn't it???????

Oh I love that bit, if the whole thing isn't a dire panic and finacial ruin just around the corner what's the point?

It's the old adage, if your not living on the edge, your taking up too much space!
