teut_onic -> Possible bug v2.2 (6/30/2000 12:22:00 PM)

I have noticed that when a unit shows how many enemy seen, that after shooting at one of the units the counter goes to 0 and the little plus signs turn red. You can still target the ones that you had originally seen but it is king of hard to remember which ones they were with the multitude of units out there. Teutonic

In the preferances you'll see a button that allows you to number the units. When the unit number switch is on and you click on one of your units, the first thing you should do is move their line of vision around this will let them see enemy units that weren't visable before. You'll also notice that enemy units that they can see are a differant color than those they can't. I am totaly surprised to see the new patch and haven't down loaded yet. In the mean time I hope this helps. ------------------ Good hunting, Pack Rat

Ok, all downloaded and a quickie played and I see what you're saying, does indeed look like a bug. We can work around it while these guys at Matrix get some rest and here's how. After you've made a shot and you need to find another target, highlight the unit you want to use and use the vision again and all that can be seen will turn white again. I'll check again but I also think that the target icon still works ok inspite of all the red colored enemies. Not only does it work to click the target icon, once you are in the target screen all units that the unit can see turn white again and stay white even after leaving the target screen. ------------------ Good hunting, Pack Rat [This message has been edited by Pack Rat (edited 06-30-2000).]

Hi all, I'm really excited about the new patch! Wow that was fast :-) BUT! As Teutonic mentioned we have now the "targeting bug" and as I just realized we seem to have a "setup bug" now too, as in a WWII campaign game the setup areas seem to be completely off with the wrong side controlling, units facing the wrong way. First I thought it was only against the Russians, so I switched Theater to North Africa, but the same happens against the Brits. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :-( Santa

Hello... This new targeting system is part of the TCP/IP multi-player code. It occurs in the game starting in version 2.2. You see, Tom Proundfoot is working hard on that part of the code, right now. Starting with version 2.2, we merged the code, so that we are now seeing some of his work.

Once a unit opens fire, the number of viisible units go to zero, because the unit is occupied. That is why you have to right click again, to get the number of visible units again. Tom is a top notch programmer. He is new to Matrix Games, but you will be hearing a lot more about him, as time goes by. He is currently occupied writing version 3.0 of Steel Panthers. I was supposed to be working on another project full time, right now, but took some time off to whip out the patches you have seen. Bye... Yes, the same thing is happening to me. It is very annoying, and its not the thing Pack Rat is saying. Alex

Hey Guys, how about a little tutorial here. As the game goes through the AI turn, and during my turn, I notice the + symbol on top of the unit icons changing color. Others have mentioned that the units change color (are they talking about the +?). What does this mean? Some kind of status indicator?? Tom

So is this a new feature and there will be penalties involved for reaquiring or was this a byproduct of the code merge. Thanks for the fast responses. Teutonic

I noticed this feature. However when my unit says that it sees 0 enemy units, I and still use the target mode and it will select possible targets. In addition, I can scan the enemy units and if visible by my unit a crosshair will appear.

Ok, when it's your turn and you have one of your units highlighted all enemy units that can be seen by that unit will be in white and that includes the numbers and +'s. White does not mean you can shoot at them it just means they can be seen. The range of your units weapons is the key to whether you can shoot. In order for +'s and numbers to appear you have to go into your preferance menu and pick the option to number the units. I hope I'm clear, post back if I'm not. Oh yeah, red means that the unit you have highlighted cannot see an enemy unit, but another of yours can. ------------------ Good hunting, Pack Rat [This message has been edited by Pack Rat (edited 07-01-2000).]

Howdy, not sure if you're asking a question or not. Your unit will only report seeing 0 enemy if it has made a shot that turn. After you have made a shot all enemy seen will drop to 0 to get this back to the total number that can be seen, go into the target screen and you will notice that all enemy units that can be seen will have turned from red to white again. You can leave this screen and go back to the battle screen and all enemy units that can be seen will be white there as well and the enemy seen number should report the total and not the 0. I'm pretty interested as to what Tom Proudfoot has in mind for us. Reread Mike's post, I haven't tried this yet, but have no doubt it will work. Mike says to highlight the unit that has an enemy seen number of 0 and right click on it. If any units should be seen they will now be seen. Alot easier than going through all the hocus pocus I said before. But I still want to know what Tom has in mind ------------------ Good hunting, Pack Rat [This message has been edited by Pack Rat (edited 07-01-2000).]
