Gun Nut -> Direct fire? (8/16/2005 1:15:39 PM)

I have looked around throughly and haven't been able to find anything to do with giving direct fire to units all I ever got was indirect, except with the "0" units that the Knee Mort Sqds are attached to their line of sight gives direct fire I know that.

But with anything over a Knee mortor I have never managed to get direct fire (Really want to know how to get direct fire with 15cm 10.5cm's and 12.2cms [:D]) , please give me some assistance!

You cannot have direct fire with howitzers if they are bought as supporting artillery. The direct firing artillery must exsist on map. Russian OOB has for example 76mm and 122mm available to be placed on map and they can fire directly.

Thank you for the help. [8D]

But still a bit confused SPA can't be called in for direct support?

Jackk -> RE: Direct fire? (8/16/2005 4:11:53 PM)

Sure they can. Just roll them up and open fire with 'em, like you would with a tank.

There's just few pieces you can roll up in front. Not the super heavy calibres unless you use the editor. The self propelled one is of course like a tank.

To direct fire, your unit must be able to see the hex/enemy unit that it wants to fire at. You do not plot it on the artillery screen, but instead fire at it normally.

As I say again I very much appreciate the help I mine as well ask another couple questions in this topic! [:D] What does Fire control mean and how do you figure out the exact survivability of a unit? I think range finder would be how accurate the main gun is (Though i'm still not sure what %'s the numbers are for all 3 if they even have a percentage).

I hate to ask questions guys but I gotta learn! *Bows down to the masters* [&o]

Terminus -> RE: Direct fire? (8/17/2005 2:23:19 PM)

Don't apologise for asking questions. That's why these forums are here...

I suspect (though I really don't know for sure) that Fire Control covers things like traverse and elevation rates (i.e. how fast the vehicle weapons can be laid onto the target).

KNomad -> RE: Direct fire? (8/17/2005 10:15:56 PM)

Crew suvivibility - don't think this is a percent - just a scale of 1 to 5?
The higher the number - the greater chance of crew survival.

Fire Control - again, a scale of 1 to 5.
High number means better reaction time (effects op fire).
May also modify chance to hit for acquired targets.

Range Finder - defines the breakpoints for weapon accuracy over range.
There's a formula in the PDF manual on this.

Twotribes -> RE: Direct fire? (8/17/2005 11:15:24 PM)

Fire control and range finder exceed 5. Depending on the weapon and its abilities.
