Mike Woods... you are the man. Thanks for keeping the old girl alive.

KG Erwin -> RE: Mike woods appreciation thread (8/18/2005 11:11:27 PM)

Hi, Bullet Magnet--I've missed you over here. Yes, Michael deserves praise for keeping the "best tactical wargame ever" (my words) in his spotlight. For him, as well as everyone who has worked on various aspects of it, it is a labor of love.

He dropped out of the heavens, so to speak, and I've had my faith renewed in the future of the "old warhorse". [&o]

I'm really happy to see you back, Bullet Magnet. Haven't played SPMBT -- I have a lot of stuff on my plate right now.

junk2drive -> RE: Mike woods appreciation thread (8/18/2005 11:58:48 PM)

I too, thought there ought to be a thank you thread.
Most of us thought that 7.1 was the end.
Good to see someone with the inside scoop able to try some new twists.
Hats off to Mike!

Cant even begin to express the gratitude I have for Mike and all the people who give us the workings and scenarios, etc. That goes for Alby and Wild Bill too. And dont forget those in the background that also do the playtesting and such. I have played wargames, both board and computer, I used to love the 88, panzer, (cant remember the 3rd of the series) board games. I have played micro-armor and such, but SPWAW has been and is by far my favorite. So to all thank you and thanks for the continued upgrades and such.

Oh yea, the 3rd one is Armor. Dah

Mike Wood -> RE: Mike woods appreciation thread (8/19/2005 7:32:44 AM)

Hello...

Was an internal playtester for the 88, Panzer and Armor games at Yaquinto. Long time ago. Influenced SPWAW design.

Bye...

Also add my thanks to you Mike for the help you have provided to us and keeping this game going.

Very much appreciated.

Mike rocks....i just wish he'd par down his responses though......too verbose.

Terminus -> RE: Mike woods appreciation thread (8/19/2005 9:06:37 PM)

Yeah, he's definitely all talk...[:D]

IBTyrone -> RE: Mike woods appreciation thread (8/19/2005 9:52:35 PM)

I'm thankful Mike writes at all. Programmers don't have much time for small talk. Too much programming to do--too little time to do it.

"Joss" Osborne -> RE: Mike woods appreciation thread (8/19/2005 10:29:24 PM)

I met Mike in Los Angeles back in 2000 at E3 with a bunch of the Matrix guys, and we had an awesome time. He's a great guy, uber programmer, and one of the mainstays of SPWAW.

THANKS MIKE!

Wild Bill -> RE: Mike woods appreciation thread (8/21/2005 7:14:15 AM)

Michael, we have had our ups and downs through the years, but it was my pleaaure to work with you and Nocastar and of course, here in the development of SPWAW.

You indeed have contributed so much. Remember those long conversations often at night during the development of SPWAW. I remember them well.

I hope you are well. Thanks.

Wild Bill

RockinHarry -> RE: Mike woods appreciation thread (8/25/2005 5:21:03 PM)

Well, since I understand itīs rather a sort of private project..thanks! [:)] SPWAW deserves not to get abandoned![;)]

cadmus -> RE: Mike woods appreciation thread (8/26/2005 6:09:15 AM)

... and add one more vote of extreme gratitude for hours and hours of pleasure, excitement and frustration thanks to the efforts of Mike and the rest of the gang. But lately, and understandably, it's been all Mike and we are, indeed, most grateful.

Dragoon 45 -> RE: Mike woods appreciation thread (8/31/2005 3:38:14 PM)

Thank you for all your work on the game and I hope you have many more enjoyable hours improving an already excellent product.

KNomad -> RE: Mike woods appreciation thread (9/10/2005 3:53:00 AM)

hmm .. off the main page again ... [&:]

Anyway - I'd like to see crewed DF weapons made more effective,
especially MGs. A little more resilience from the crews, and a
little more killing/supressing power from the MGs specifically.

And yes, I only take a shot or two at moving infantry with my MGs
to suppress/pin them. A burst or two should suppress a moving squad,
and the average for me is 2-3.

KG Erwin -> RE: Mike woods appreciation thread (9/10/2005 4:21:23 AM)

KNomad, I have found that crew-served MGs DO have significant killing ability. The simple answer for survivability is increasing crew sizes, depending on the nation. I gave the USMC/US Army 30-cal MMG & HMG squads ( a squad is one machine gun) a crew of 6. This is the historical crew size. The crew members include ammo carriers and assistant gunners, and they were armed with whatever they could get their hands on. Officially, they were restricted to carbines and pistols, but others managed to acquire SMGs by trade or otherwise. My compromise was to give ALL crew-served weapons Misc Small Arms as secondary weapons for defense.
