Lamoid -> Set-up man (8/21/2005 7:55:12 PM)

I don't know how many games I've lost due to this problem.

I'm controlling one team (Yankees). During the game my manager never brings in my set up man in the 8th.

The same thing happens every time. The Manager leaves in the starting pitcher until the closer. That is until the other team ties or takes the lead.

But my manager will never bring in the setup man in the eighth inning when we have the lead.

I've tried setting every starting pitcher to be hooked very quickly but this doesn't change anything.

I've also tried setting my setup man to be used primarily in the set up position.

Can anyone help?

Did you set your manager preferences for pitchers. It can be set anywhere from very patient to very quick. If yours is set on patient or very patient, he may be leaving in your pitchers too long.

Lamoid, do you have your "setup man" set to "Only come in during save situations?"

Because, the game's interpretation of "save situation" is "9th inning or later", so if you mark that checkbox, you don't get a "setup man", you get a second closer, which I doubt is what you're looking for.

Shaun, I had the expectation that marking that for, say, my #1 reliever, would cause the AI to bring him in only in the 7th and 8th inning of games where we had a 1-, 2-, or 3- run lead - could you change the functionality to match that expectation at some future point? Because, at the moment, "Only save situations" is only useful for the "Closer" role, and he should already function in that regard...

I messed around a little with this and I think having the game be aware of "hold situations" not just save situations might help this out. Being able to tell the game you want a lefty-righty set up combo in these situations when the opponent has a couple lefty hitters coming up in the 7-8th innings would be good too.
