Frozen Stiffer -> Game Can't Tell It's Registered (8/23/2005 10:34:36 PM)

Hello, Shaun.

A funny thing happened today. Even though I had played the game earlier this morning, when I tried to run PSB just now, I received two dialog boxes. The first read exactly as follows:

"Product activation for PureSum Baseball 2005. failed. PureSim Baseball 2005. has already been registered on another computer. Please contact shaun@puresim.com for further information. (Error = -25005"

When I clicked OK (my only option) I then received the following dialog box:

"This version may only be accessed by registered owners of PureSim Baseball 2005"

Considering I'm running RC1, I could understand the 2nd warning; if the first one is because the game thinks it isn't registered and RC1 needs the game to be registered in order to work, it obviously won't play. However, I registered the game back on 7/23 so that's not a problem. Do you know what might be the deal?

Well, I still don't know what went wrong, but I uninstalled the game then reinstalled it and everything is working fine.

That's still a peculiar series of events, wouldn't you say?

Shaun,

I just tried to run it this morning (and again this afternoon) but the game's telling me it's already registered under a different computer and to contact you about it. It'll eventually start, but runs as a trial version. Granted, it actually IS installed on 2 PCs (my laptop and my desktop) but that's never been a problem before.

What's odd is that the last time I played it on the laptop (prior to today's error) every thing worked just fine. Game ran, it recognized itself as registered, etc. The only thing I did was not play for a while. Is that a trap that you built in? If someone doesn't play the game for a while, you punish them by making it look unregistered?

[:D]

I tried reinstalling over the existing one and no luck. I also tried removing the existing one and then installing fresh, but it gives me the same error. Is this something you need to do, something I'm doing wrong, or a twisted and bizarre combination of the two?

[:)]

Thanks in advance for your help!

This is the error I'm receiving:

Afterwards, it tells me "Congratulations! This name and serial number appear to be valid. Please re-start PureSim in order to complete this process". However, when I do, I get the same error as above, it runs as a Trial Copy and the cycle repeats itself.

Any clues?

Fixed!

However, just curiosity now, what went wrong?

According to the system you had activated the game 2 times on 2 different machines already.

The Gold Edition is our usual serial number system, which does not have a hardware/installation limit, but legally requires that you only run it on one computer at a time and registers the unique serial number to you once the purchase is made. It's fine to have it installed on, for example, your desktop and your laptop as long as you are only playing one one or the other at a time.

The boxed CD version, which should be available later this week, can be installer right from the CD. The installer file comes on the printed CD in a nice printed DVD box.

Regards,

- Erik
