JeanNYGUARD -> Crown of Glory mod or game for the American Revolution (8/28/2005 3:53:09 AM)

I think the interface, system, and playability of Crown of Glory is a game that has been a long time in coming... but no one wanted to do it cause they rather make first person shooters of WW2 or Vietnam. I was wondering though why not developing a Crown of Glory style game for The American Revolution. Or War of 1812. Mexican-American War, Texan Independence, Civil War. I rather have one for The American Revolution though.

Give me a shout out - JeanNYGUARD@yahoo.com

I'm afraid that the battles of the American Revolution just do not have the size or scope to make a really good battle game in any style. Personally, I see the American Revolution as being more of a strategic game subject with some kind of tactical module for fighting battles.

I'm afraid that a Napoleonic scale game system would be massive overkill for the subject.

Just my opinion.

HPS has a decent game concerning the American Revolution so you should check it out........

Actually, I have looked at it... at least from the screenshots it just looked like a tiny little skirmish compared to Campaign Gettysburg and his other Civil War titles (as well as the old Talonsoft line).

Didn't excite me in the slightest.

JP... do you actually own this one? Anyone who has actually played please chime in with your take on the limited scale of these battles.

Of course, I should admit that I found AH "1776" to be a total bore and one of the few AH games that I really hated so I'm really not into that period.

Rhonda, no I do not own the game yet as I was basing my comments on reviews and other forum messages....that is soon to change however as NWS Online Combat Gaming Store is now selling HPS games for $30 (that's $20 less than the original price) so I will be picking up 1776 this week....

Cash permitting, I am think about picking up the whole trio of HPS game soon, the French and Indian War, 1776, and War of 1812 (oh god, a developer using matrix buying other peoples games... maybe that's why WPO is getting knocked down in the forums). Then again, Ive been saying that for about 3 years now....

I have almost all of the HPS Napoleonic and Early American War series and they are all very good. With some of the ACW thrown in to boot.

The mechanics are similar, so once you get them down.[;)]
You can load up any game and play away.

There are campaigns, with battle choices for some.
Also, there are huge campaign scenarios of up to 500 turns in others.

Waterloo has recently been released.
There is already a mod on the HPS site turning it into a company unit sized action.
It's very impressive.[;)]

No slight is intended but, I own more HPS titles than any other.
John Tiller is a master. He's creating the War in Europe Series now.[;)]

I thought the HPS American Revolution game was quite good. Even the scripted campaign was interesting. I learned a lot about the revolution by playing it too. Definitely worthwhile. Decent AI as well. Lots of good "what-if" scenarios, some battles have 4 or 5 variants. The small size of some of the actions is precisely what makes them interesting, with plenty of scope for flanking operations.

You should check out Monmouth or Saratoga in 1776. They aren't skirmishes.[;)]
