h00b22 -> Problems to "see" the game (9/1/2005 5:58:30 PM)

Hi everybody.
I have a "view" problem with the free edition of the SPWaW.
I've installed the game on my professional PC (runnig under Win 2000 NT) and the problem is that I don't see enough "brightness" on the screen.
I have the same freeedition dowloaded on my home PC and the image of the screen is good.
Some of you knows wich could be the problem ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

KNomad -> RE: Problems to "see" the game (9/1/2005 8:18:02 PM)

Have you tried adjusting the contrast/brightness setting on your moniter?

Is it just a problem with SPWAW on that system? ie .. other games/software displays fine?

IBTyrone -> RE: Problems to "see" the game (9/1/2005 11:56:57 PM)

I have SPWAW 8.4 installed on my win2000Pro computer at work (don't tell the boss!)[:-]

It seems to work fine most of the time, but once in awhile, the screen comes up black. When I move the mouse around I can see trails of the Steel Panthers screen, but I have to refresh the screen (F5?) to see the whole screen again. Is that your problem?

Strange, I get that particular problem myself, on XP. I shake the mouse about until it clears - yeah, a bit barbarian, but it works.[8|] Monitor still has dent from forehead.[:D]

Hey, whatever works! [:D] It does not happen that often for me so I don't find it *too* annoying. That, and I don't play that often on my work machine. It's more there for reference when I have to look something up (like the refresh key?). Speaking of screen refresh, I was incorrect, the F5 key is used for setting the color in chat (huh?) but I think any key that you press that changes what is on the screen (like SPACE for unit information) will force the screen to redraw and get rid of the black screen.

Same happened to me because I updated a video driver... I rolled back to previous driver and the problem went away.

IBTyrone -> RE: Problems to "see" the game (9/2/2005 5:29:39 AM)

Thanks for the tip, Alby. I'm using the original video driver that came with the machine, but I hadn't thought about upgrading or downgrading? it. It's not a major problem for me since I don't play SPWAW on that machine since it is at work and use it mostly for testing, but h00b22 might be able to use it.

Major Destruction -> RE: Problems to "see" the game (9/3/2005 6:56:06 AM)

I see that black screen from time to time and I am using windows millenium. I right click to get the full picture.

h00B22 check your preferences. Are you using move radius A or move radius B? I use move radius B. Perhaps changing will make your picture perfect?

h00b22 -> RE: Problems to "see" the game (9/4/2005 10:12:03 AM)

OK, thanks everybody for all your fast answers ...
As KNomad said ...

"Have you tried adjusting the contrast/brightness setting on your moniter?"

That was the first action I did. I've adjusted the brightness setting at maximum level. And the problem of "dark view" is only with SPWaW. Any other software program runs good.

The second one.
As IBTyrone said about the sreen "coming up black" (but not the complete screen, only the game's window) I've the same problem (sometimes) on my home PC under XP and it becomes working again if I click left the mouse and shake it all around the screen.

An answer for MajorDestruction: is not a problem with the radius A/B preference option. I can see the "shadow" of the movement radius, I can see the game screen, I can see every single tank, soldier, road, flag ... and all other elements ... But the real problem is that everything is "dark" (not black).

Well ... finishing. A couple of days after my first e-mail asking for help I tried againg (at work) but changing my desk's screen for other one ( I thought "EUREKA, it is going to be the solution") but the new neither works !!!.

I mean at the end of the story I'm going the play the SPWaW only at home and it's a sad option because at work ... I'm my own boss !!!

Many thanks again to all.

(P.D. How can I attach a quote ?)

Sounds like a driver issue with the video card on your work machine. Are the video cards the same? If not, I suggest you check with the manufacturer: remember, this is an old DOS program at its heart, and the switch to Windows was made a few years ago. Some of the newer video cards/drivers could cause this problem.

Thanks Flashfyre for your tip.
I'll try on this way.
