Orion292 -> Info on American Civil War: (9/2/2005 7:39:54 PM)

I read an old article about Matrix signing a deal with Adanac Command studies (whose website by the way (www.adanaccommandstudies.com) is no more)) to produce a new version of the old civil war game ACW: The road from Sumter to Appomattox IV. I was just wandering if anyone has heard about this or has any onfo on it. I haven't been able to find anything except for that old article. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Regards,
Shane

Yes- there have been a couple of releases from Matrix saying they are planning to do it. The War in Russia game is supposed to be the next major project, though (AFAIK).

I believe that it will be a Frank Hunter game - so after he's done with WWI game ( can't wait ) I'm betting that's his next project

Yeah, I play the older ACW Road from Sumter to Appox. alot, the 3rd version. But it just doens't run quite right on WinXP, even in Win98 compatability mode. Besides, it's got alot of bugs that never got irined out and the interface is HORRIBLE. The game itself though is extremely enjoyable, if you can get past the latter stuff I just mentioned. I hope they redo it in an WinXP version and for god sake make that interface more user friendly. Anyway, thanks for the info guys, if anyone hears anything else please post it somewhere and I'll find it!

Shane

I've played a rather good ACW game from an outfit call MadMinute Games focusing on the battle of Bull Run. It has some unique AI attributes in that you are often in the role of a subordinate commander with quite limited authority. The developer was being published by Activision Value, but they have parted ways.

Amazon has it for $19.95 ($14.95 used) and the ratings are excellent on this game.

Here is the link to Mad Minute's website

They have parted company from Activision, but it looks like the boxes and ads still specify "Activision" and "The History Channel".

Here is a link to Franks ACW game plus the web site has some good information on how to play. I hope they redo this game because it had a lot of potential.

I thought the next 2by3 project WAS an ACW game using the GGWaW engine? WiR is currently "on hold" according to their website?

A new Frank Hunter game would be great, though.
