In Burma, stalled and with his flanks in the air..... would have had to kill Rangoon airbase, but that was just a matter of time and plenty of troops arriving at Sabang.

and as the sun sets over the Japanese Empire Flashman indulges in a little cultural exchange with an American nurse before bidding farewell to the South Pacific.

For anyone who wants to know where Sebastian Flashman originated

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Paget_Flashman

I have read them all, and they are cracking reads!

And chance of a rough timeline of important events? I surprised to see the Japanese stopped so cold on every front.

I think we blundered around quite a bit. [&:][:o] Going for Manila as our open shot should have been reconcidered. [8|]

A very rough timeline:

1. Jap initial attack did not happen, so there was a massive problem for them after one day.
2. Standard invasion of Malaya and Burma, but we managed to get enough into Singers to stop them there, same at Manila where we got umpteen supply single ships in.
3. Slow attack in Philippines meant they did not move into Borneo till quite late, by which time we had the area well fortified.
4. China was a series of piecemeal attacks, lacked concentration of force so easily dealt with, later their flanks were in the air so we surrounded them.
5. Solomons/ New Guinea we were able to get a good lodgement on Gili and Port Moresby - and after some heavy fighting took Guadalcanal back. We were able to attack with concentrated B17s from Port Moresby on Rabaul and the airfield was packed with his planes.... kaboom. As we moved for Lae they pulled massive fighter and bomber forces to Wewak.... we did the same blitz there - their air losses mounted.
6. In the Pacific we managed to pull the KB back and forward between Rabaul and Baker island - eventually it disappeared - we suspected that it had sent a lot of its planes to Rabaul where they got destroyed and it was a spent force.....
7. There was very little Jap naval activity overall... most sinkings were naval air attacks.
8. We were a very annoying opponent, determined to pick away and taunt, then disappear.... the re-invasion of Rangoon about a week after it fell was an example of this 'harrying' approach.
9. The war was won by defeating their air power and denial of economic assets. We assume their economy was a mess as, apart from Tarakan, Miri and Brunei they had not managed to take any oil centres - the whole reason for the war really.

I did not keep a detailed record of the daily activity, sorry.

That's the description I was looking for! Thanks!

scott64 -> RE: Another flag planted (11/15/2006 12:54:16 AM)

I was trying to get KB to hit Lunga, but could never work it out because of the planes. [8|]

Well we certainly had a very enjoyable game. I look on WITP as something that affords a whole host of little wins and losses so overall the result is only the termination of the process.

Hopefully I'll be back on our other team game soon Scott.

I assumed neither you nor Werner would object to the after game analysis I've offered here.

Thanks again.

Roger
