tianfeng -> A question for Jap players (9/14/2005 9:32:46 PM)

1, If I attack Russia at the begining of the game, is there any bad consequence? (Troops in Machu can't leave anyway)
2, Can resource convert to supply automatically? Why we need to transport resouce back to Japan? How about oil?

AmiralLaurent -> RE: A question for Jap players (9/14/2005 9:50:27 PM)

1) At the start of the game, Kwantung Army will not be able to defeat Soviet forces alone. If you bring some 5-6 Div from other theaters it is perfectly doable, especially against the AI. The consequences of attacking are that Soviet troops and AC became active but the AI won't do much of them. A PBEM player will probably bomb Manchoukuo factories, ressource and oil, and bring heavy bombers from the States.

2) Each ressource centers produce 1 supply and 1 ressource each day. Each oil centrer procudes 1 fuel and 6 oil each day. But you have to bring ressources and oil to HI cities to convert them into HI points (to build ships, AC and troops) and more supplies and fuel. The AI will automatically move by rail ressources and oil so all you have to do is to land them on the right land mass (Japan, Formosa, China) and then sail back to the SRA.
We need to bring around 8000 ressources and 8000 oil per day to Japan or more than half of the Japanese HI will not work.

Oil + Ressources -> HI city -> production of HI points -> use of these points to build ships, AC, armament and vehicles pts

The production of supply in the ressource centers is enough for local garrisons but you will always need fuel generated in HI industry.

There's an older AAR that shows an invasion of the USSR.

moses -> RE: A question for Jap players (9/14/2005 11:19:43 PM)

If you attack Russia on Dec 7 with the at start forces then Russia will clean your clock.

Unless you bring in some zero's the Russian air force is clearly superior to what Japan has in theater. Russia's troops are very capable and have good artillery. They get lots of air and ground reinforcements.

Best case is you get into a long war of attrition, with Russia occasionally bombing your resourses in Asia or even Japan.

Instead of having a large force resting in a supply sufficient region you will have to send supplies and rienforcements to a region that is having its industry steadily undermined.

Hi, In a few "coming soon" AAR you will see Japan invade Soviets. But it won't be on turn 1.

Nikademus -> RE: A question for Jap players (9/15/2005 2:29:37 AM)

didn't WitpDude take out Russia by moving in with the China army?

Before Mog can take Russia, he'll have to take Singapore first.....right Oleg? [;)]

Oleg Mastruko -> RE: A question for Jap players (9/15/2005 5:00:39 AM)

I don't know how crazy he is [;)] However, if he atacks Russia first I might transport some of the retreating Russians to help with Sing defenses, I mean to help with People's Socialist Republic of Singapore's defences.

Phillipines will be officially renamed Runway One for purposes of that game. [X(]

Hi, Your going to need medical personal on standby before you look at the replay on turn 1. When you wake up you can make your pitiful turn in response.......bug

tianfeng -> RE: A question for Jap players (9/15/2005 10:56:47 PM)

Of course not on Dec.7 . I think I will transport several Divs from China and Japan to form a spearhead and attack counterclock.
By the way, does bombing have any effect on troops, lose 50 man a day is not a big deal for one division.

Big B -> RE: A question for Jap players (9/15/2005 11:02:09 PM)

What would be gained by attacking the USSR?[&:]

TheElf -> RE: A question for Jap players (9/15/2005 11:13:10 PM)

Having been invaded in Russia as the allies in my PBEM I can say that if you do it, you better bring the wood and be committed to finishing the job because the USSR has experienced troops lots of artillery, T-34 tanks, a large Tactical Air force with mostly competent pilots, and endless supply.

To avoid being gamey and pissing off your opponent I would reccomend.

1.) Notify him that you will be activating the russians at some point.

2.) On turn one actually activate them so he can move his LCU's as they would have been able to do IRL to prepare for an invasion. You do this by crossing the border briefly and then returning to your side. He needs to know when and where you are doing this so as not to make hime believe it is the real thing.

3.) Agree on the previous 2 house rules, and then make it clear that a State of War only exists in Russia when Jap units cross the border first. (assuming he understands that the turn 1 activation does count as a true invasion)

I would consider that a fair arrangement. After that don't be a gamey ass and never invade, (essentially freeing up you Kwangtung LCU's for other duties).

mogami -> RE: A question for Jap players (9/16/2005 12:04:08 AM)

Hi, I would not attack in a normal game but I am trying to be mean so I am not going to agree to any house rules that help Soviets.

tianfeng -> RE: A question for Jap players (9/16/2005 12:40:43 AM)

Those rules sound affair as long as you won't bomb me or transfer units in/out USSR untill the real invasion occurs.

Big B -> RE: A question for Jap players (9/16/2005 12:46:06 AM)

I suppose it's all about being honorable,
But what's the point of worrying about being too gamey?

Your AT WAR, the only rules are the ones the game engine won't allow you to fold spindle or mutilate.

It's no holds barred- and all out to the death....that's the proper spirit of the thing.

Terminus -> RE: A question for Jap players (9/16/2005 12:50:28 AM)

Yep. As soon as warfare stopped being a military affair and became an industrial one, honour went out the window.

Yah, What he said...

(and for those who enjoy a good military simulation - THAT is probably the best spirit to pursue it in...like it really is Life or Death)

No, what this is about is the stupid setup that the scenario has for the Russians; a 4 year old would distribute the forces like that. Much the same as having virtually all the Asiatic Fleet subs in port on Dec 7 and everyone thinking that it is some bonanza to go down there and duck shoot them in their Manila barrel. Some were there, but not all of them.
A Japanese player in Manchuria can take Kwantung and additional forces, move to known weak spots in the Russian postition, mass there with NO reaction from the Russian forces and attack at will. Heck, I don't even think Vladivostok has ground forces in it; a rapid landing there could result in a Coup de Main of the main Soviet Base in the Far East....right....

Well if THAT is the concern...get out your scenario editor and FIX IT before you start the game...

That's what I do, with all sorts of other things. It's actually kinda fun, moreso now that I've decided I don't really need to follow history 100% to the letter.
