Big B -> Editor features (9/18/2005 6:54:28 AM)

Hello all,

I have been playing and fiddleing with WitP for some time now, I thought I would reload UV to take a look at it, and its EDITOR - something I never did when playing UV.

Low and behold there were several features missing from the editor - like ship classes, and devices - these are a big part of the WitP editor.

Were these features ever added to UV in some patch update?

Also, I copied the WitP Data Base Editor over to UV Scen folder and it saw all the UV scenarios - but it wouldn't open them - each timeit said it couldn't open the aircraft file...

Is there a work around to use the more advanced WitP Data Base Editor for UV?
I'm sure it must be only a matter of proper filenames...

Comments?

If the file formats are different, which I have a feeling they are, you won't be able to use the WitP editor for UV scenarios. The WitP editor probably only "saw" the UV scenarios as it was looking at the txt and/or cmt files. The UV editor is the tool for editing UV scenarios. Any extra options that appear in the WitP editor are probably only relevant for the WitP data files. I don't think the WitP editor is any more "advanced" than the UV one; it's just modified to handle the changes in file formats made between the two games.

The formats are like but not the same as WITP.
The extra fields from WITP do not have any meaning to UV, but using them could upset the structure of the UV files.

Also, the device, ship class and aircraft files are the same for all scenarios in UV.

Bodhi, michaelm,

Understood about incompatibility between UV and WitP editors...
the only reason I was hoping they would work is that the added features in the latter will allow you to create and modify land units, weapon systems, and ship class statistics - which UV editor lacks the capacity to do. If you want to create a mod you sorely need that capability...it's a shame that you can't.

Thanks for the info guys.
