I dont know bout you all but the placement of victory flags in the long campaign seems all wrong to me. It seems to me it would be more advantageous to capture a hill top then a plot of ground behind the hill. Also putting them in a small village would seem more right to me then four hexes outside the village whicch means norhing to me if i capture them. We wered told during training capturing the high ground was our main objective. A place where the road crossed or a gap in the hills something like thats seems more like where i would have placed the flags. Maybe a bridge across a river or a hill to either side of a valley running thru. what do you all think are the flags placed to your liking in the long campaign.

The program uses random maps, not likely it is easy to program where a random map will have strategic or tactically important real estate. Remember this is not a new game.

I do like the option in SPMBT where you can place VH where you want on the random map. Requires work and could be abused, but whats the point of cheating the AI? )

In the end a lot of formations are randomly placed also. And most units in defense for the AI do not manuever.

Yes, there's a certain arbitrariness on VH placement which doesn't take into account dominating terrain features, or even important road/rail junctions. The long campaign does have interesting features, but obvious drawbacks.

Other than the mega-campaigns, it's the closest thing we have to a "career mode" in SPWaW, so this feature is still one of my favorites.

With some simple file manipulation you can place the VHs in more appropriate and militarily logical places. Simply save the battle before you start the first turn, change the save game file to a scenario file, load it into the editor, and place the hexes where ever they make the most sense according to terrain and sitiuation. Save the scenario file, change it to a save game file, and fight a battle where the objectives actually make sense.
