Damien Thorn -> Respawning barges question (9/27/2005 8:04:10 PM)

Is the respawning of ships like barges and minesweepers tied to the slot they are in or does the game check for ship type when a ship dies? It would be good to know before I start replacing those barges with other ship types.

LOL, never bothered to replace any, personally. I tend to use the barges for a very important mission: Run out front and trip mines [;)]

Barges respawn in their original slot. (unless scuttled, then they don't respawn) PT's respawn in their original slot.

MSW's, allied CV's and Cruisers respawn into a completely new slot. If all Japanese ship slots have been used up, their MSW's will respawn as allied ships if allied slots are available.

If all ship slots are filled up, then MSW's, CV's and cruisers will not respawn when sunk.

So, if I replace a barge with a battlecruiser it will respawn in the same slot?

If I create a barge in a slot that used to have a CL, it will not respawn when sunk?

no.

The respawn rules for Barges (ship type) make them respawn in their own slot. It doesn't matter if they are in slot 1 or in slot 5000. This is probably because they don't show up on the sunk ship list. I'm not sure.

CV's, CA's, CL's and MSW's respawn into the next available ship slot. It's based on ship type, not the actual slot number. I think this is because they do show up on the sunk ship list.

All the rules are based on ship type, not slots.

Thanks for clearing that up.

You mean that if Japan managed to have all his MSW sunk, and then sank the 1942 US CVs, they won't respawn because they will be no place in the DB.... this is an interesting strategy.

I suppose, yes. But, there are a LOT of allied slots open. And, once Japan fills up their empty slots with sunk MSW's, they start to respawn as allied ships (but the show up in Tokyo) As the allied player, if you didn't sink them right away in Tokyo, I'd move them to a safe place. And, I'd start to mine your @ss all over the board. [:'(][:'(]
