Agreement with Talonsoft On Award-Winning Wargames

Matrix Games is proud to announce that it has acquired the rights to publish the former award winning Talonsoft line of wargames.

The agreement includes the rights to publish, update and modify some of the most well-respected wargames of all time. Included in this agreement is the full Battleground series of games, the Campaign series, the Operational Art of War series, the Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich games as well as the Age of Sail.

From East Front to A Century of Warfare, many of these titles are best-sellers and award-winners and still represent the state of the art on the battles or topics that they cover. The Battleground series, for example, was inducted in its entirety into the Computer Gaming World Hall of Fame.

David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said, “For wargamers, this is a legendary games line and many of us are still playing these titles. We are very excited to be able to publish these titles and are certain that wargamers around the world will be delighted at this news.”

Matrix Games plans to release further information in the near future on updates and publishing plans and schedules for these titles.

DandricSturm -> RE: Matrix Games Secures Rights to Publish Talonsoft Line (10/6/2005 9:36:31 AM)

Yes....I'll be buying some of these!

kafka -> RE: Matrix Games Secures Rights to Publish Talonsoft Line (10/6/2005 9:56:41 AM)

oh, great news.

As for modifying some of these titles It would be great to add some strategic elements to the operational art of war so that the player can to some extent also control the production (as done in witp).

And what about combining the engine of Campaign series with that of operational art of war into one game which would so cover both aspects: the operational/strategic with the tactical (alike COG has done)?

Anyway great news, hoping that matrix will do its best to improve and evolve the series

Crazy stuff!

If you guys need extra graphics work on any of these(particularly the BGCW and Campaign Series), I'm game.

BTR! BTR! BTR!

Pippin -> RE: Matrix Games Secures Rights to Publish Talonsoft Line (10/6/2005 1:10:33 PM)

Holy crap. So when can i finaly play TOAW without getting the "This is not an NT compatible CD!" response from my OS?

It's been sitting here gathering dust for years.

Oleg Mastruko -> RE: Matrix Games Secures Rights to Publish Talonsoft Line (10/6/2005 2:13:28 PM)

Mag-phucking-nificent news! [&o][&o][&o][&o]

m10bob -> RE: Matrix Games Secures Rights to Publish Talonsoft Line (10/6/2005 3:19:07 PM)

I see this as a definite win-win for Talon,Matrix, and the consumers, because Matrix has a ready made home with potential buyers already gathered in one place, (on the forums). Those Talon games were some of my "guilty pleasures" during Steel Panthers days, and the video graphics have been much missed. (The Bulge has videos of both German scenes accompanied by the Panzerlied, and American action scenes accompanied by The Star Spangled Banner. That game is worth purchasing for the vids alone, IMHO. Bombing the Reich also has great vids, and on the major vid, it plays Wagners "Dance of the Valkyrie" !!!!! Astounding !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get the beer and pretzels ready !!!!!!!![:'(]

DBeves -> RE: Matrix Games Secures Rights to Publish Talonsoft Line (10/6/2005 3:23:32 PM)

Fantastic - been waiting for someone to do this... So please tell me you're going to be changing the code behind the campaign series A LOT to make it more realistic ????????

Let's hope so....

And Matrix, if you need a beta-tester for the Campaign Series, sign me up...

Played mega-hours on all of them since the original East Front back in '96...in fact just played a few turns of a WF SS Panzer Corps DCG last night...

I have MILLIONS of ideas for this series (okay, more like dozens...)[:D]

So um........Hey you guys. I started working on a TOAW clone last March and got so far as to have about 85% of the scenario editor working ( you can edit the equipment, calender, events, forces but not the map, etc. ) and had a shell of the TOAW clone outlined. Now that Matrix has bought the TOAW rights I'm wondering about the legal ramifications of my working on a TOAW clone. Should I cease and desist? Should I continue? I don't want to ruffle any legal feathers and will comply with any wish expressed by Matrix. Do you want a copy of my source code? Is all my effort effectively in vain? Do you guys (Matrix ) have a copy of the latest wish list ( things the clone was going to fix to make TOAW more playable ) ? Want a hand with fixing TOAW ? I'm available.

SurrenderMonkey -> RE: Matrix Games Secures Rights to Publish Talonsoft Line (10/6/2005 6:27:07 PM)

Phan-freaking-tastic!

I got my credit card in my hands. [:)]

Pippin -> RE: Matrix Games Secures Rights to Publish Talonsoft Line (10/6/2005 6:39:47 PM)

Still have the original TOAW manual elite edition. Read and re-read that until all the pages fell out. But I think it's time I get some scotch tape and re-assemble it all together again.

HoustonAerosFan -> RE: Matrix Games Secures Rights to Publish Talonsoft Line (10/6/2005 7:49:17 PM)

This is potentially GREAT news for the Campaign Series.

I'm holding out a lot of hope for improvements in the Campaign Series engine as this is one of the few brigade level (pushing platoons around) games out there.

Oh, were to start?......

1) Replace IGO-UGO with WEGO 2) Realistic rocket launchers 3) Combining partial strength transport units 4) Replace odds based CRT with differential for anti-armor combat 5) Russian units that fight to the death rather than retreat 6) Etc, Etc.

I could probably write a memo, if not a book.

My concern thought would be marketing this one and Combat Leader at the same time.

Le Tondu -> RE: Matrix Games Secures Rights to Publish Talonsoft Line (10/6/2005 8:59:08 PM)

Ok, this the WWII Campaign Series and not the Napoleonic Campaign Series.

Sorry about that.

I would definitely like to see further development in the Campaign series...my first idea would be to improve the AI and come to think of it like HoustonAerosFan mentioned above replace IGO-UGO with WEGO seems like a great idea!

Replacing igo-ugo with wego is not a practical option I'd imagine.

Tankerace -> RE: Matrix Games Secures Rights to Publish Talonsoft Line (10/6/2005 10:19:57 PM)

Hey Matrix, since you are already using some of my stuff [:D], maybe you'd like my West Front mod that adds in new commands for the DCGs, such as the 82nd and 101st Airborne, 1st Special Service Force, 2nd and 5th Ranger Bns, Luftwaffe, Mountain, and Jaeger Divisions, and a Churchill RTR.

The Other Kingmaker -> RE: Matrix Games Secures Rights to Publish Talonsoft Line (10/6/2005 10:39:56 PM)

HiHi

Brilliant!!!! At last!!! Yippeee!!! and other good stuff [&o]

Hope you guys at Matrix are gonna look at the ACW titles as well, improving the AI would be great, make playing solo more entertaining etc.

But my big, “PLEASE” is, leave the graphics alone they are fine, BUT, is it possible to make it so troops in column can march, and also deploy into line, just like they could in the real war.

Wishing you good luck in you updating of a superb gaming platform, just don't forget the ACW!!! [:)]

All the Best Peter

Richrd -> RE: Matrix Games Secures Rights to Publish Talonsoft Line (10/7/2005 1:05:26 AM)

What great news!! BTR and TOAW are two of my favorite games ever. And East Front and West front and the battleground series.

Agreed...but one can dream right :) Fix the AI, make it smarter and I could care less about other features. EF2 is great as is...except the AI. I'm definitely going to support the campaign series. All the campaign games in one package for 39.95...sound's great to me!

Fred98 -> RE: Matrix Games Secures Rights to Publish Talonsoft Line (10/7/2005 2:52:30 AM)

After Combined Arms I too will be interested in the TAOW series.

Matrix

Any plans to pickup Rising Sun?

Also - what's this I hear about MATRIX working on the old 360 Harpoon Series?

According to the new forums descriptions, all CS games are included. This covers Rising Sun as well.

Hi all,

This is great news to have those wonderfull games out of the humid attic of Take 2. Hopefully they did age well. Can't promise I'd buy all of them though. [;)]

BG Waterloo and I believe other Napoleonic and Civil War battleground games also also had in-game video of reenactments of the battles. This was a great immersion factor (though a drain of the power of my old P120 [;)] ). Here's hope these features will be kept.

Cheers,

JeF.
