In the meantime, while TOAW is being edited, does anyone know any tricks to get TOAW to run on XP? The only solution I've heard so far to get it to run on my box is to install a dual OS. I'd rather just keep one OS on here as it is.

Running fine on my XP, but can't remember if any tricks were needed. The best place for TOAW-related questions is SZO.

You need to turn ON the compatibility mode, and run it as if under W2000 (ie pick W2000 on the compatibility drop down list)

O.

Right-click on your 'load game' icon, click properties, click compatability, check W2k as 'run compatible with';

Make sure this icon relates to where ever the root for the game is loaded (drive;\ folder name\ etc)

If your having probs, KEKE's pst is a good tip! Try the tech section, eh?

I tried that numerous times. It just never prevented that "Non NT compatible CD" error. I can install the game, but that is it, never run it.... Maybe it's due to some copy protection problem?

hm, I have the COW version and it runs fine on XP. Never heard of that error before, do you have the exact error code? Are there any entries in the event manager?

Pippin -> RE: In the meantime (10/7/2005 12:58:38 PM)

I do not have COW, I have the Elite pack.

JJKettunen -> RE: In the meantime (10/7/2005 3:05:57 PM)

Well that explains any extra problems you may have.

One of the Elites has a weird problem where if you do not literaly turn the power to the machine off (straight from old TS tech support) before it goes to the registration dialouge, while installing, it will not be playable subsequently on some machines.

Also, you might try the 'compatibility thing' using [run as '95/98] .

My understanding is that the 'old' toaw ( 1, 2, and prolly 'elite' ) are native '95, so expect bunches of problems in XP.

Possibly, you might 'google' for some sort of emulator......

Good luck, you'll need it!
