It doesn't look as if Wake can be saved. We may still try to make it expensive, but that is about it.
Japs invade Borneo again, and assault Soerabaja
Allied forces continue to grind down Japanese at Canton island. We wonder about the carrier TF located just NW of Canton. Maybe they are trying to reinforce, or perhaps[8|]hopefully, evacuate.

Soerabaja falls!. The dutch forces at Soerabaja, though numerous and entrenched, could not resist the Japanese for more than three days.
In Borneo, Japanese forces take Sampit, unopposed. In the Philipinnes, Japanese forcs take Cebu. It should be noted that the most of the garrison had been evacuated by submarine and is now recovering in Australia.

Need some info... What are you trying to load? Those RAF HQs?

kaleun -> RE: Java is gone (1/31/2006 12:42:53 AM)

Yes, that's it, the HQs. If you notice the "load troops" and "load only troops" buttons are not active.

It looks to me like you are using the wrong map data file. You cannot load troops and you have a TF which appears to be sailing through the prohibited zone, instead of along the sea channel to/from India. You will need to ensure that both you and your opponent are using the correct map data file for the extended map.

Andrew

So what files should we use?

There is a pwhex.dat file in the extended map package zip file (located in the "ART\Maps_Modified_4X" directory). That one is the one that should be used with the extended map. Note that if you switch to using this file before that TF in the prohibited zone gets to an ocean hex, the TF will become "trapped", so move it out to an ocean hex first, before switching the file.

Also, make sure that BOTH of you are using the right data file. Let me know if you need more help.

Looks like my baby carrier group has scored another blow to the American carrier forces. With some minor damage done to the IJN flattops Lexington is set ablaze. This battle took place noth east of Canton Island. This photo was take by a torpedo bomber pilot from the carrier Shoho.

ADM Halsey -> RE: Lexington Joins Sister Sara (2/2/2006 2:22:46 AM)

Well maybe she has not found her way down yet, but that is a cool pic of her. [:D]

ADM Halsey -> RE: Lexington Joins Sister Sara (2/2/2006 3:02:58 AM)

The first Battle of Midway finds the American carrier Hornet out numbered 5 to 1. Hornet got off the first strike with over 30 dive-bombers with about 19 Wildcat leading the way. They ran into the CAP of 64 Zeros, and in the end 1 dive-bomber was able to get through and attack the Soryu but missed. The IJN carrier force launched over 100 torpedo bombers with Zero escort and ran into 6 Wildcats on CAP. The Hornet took 7 torpedo hits and disappeared beneath the waves.

kaleun -> RE: Lexington Joins Sister Sara (2/2/2006 3:49:18 AM)

We regret to inform that two allied carriers, Lexington and Hornet have been lost at sea to superior Japanese air forces. The Department of the navy reports two enemy carriers damaged in an air battle near Canton Island, by aircraft from USS Lexington.
In an unrelated piece of news, Japanese forces have been finally cleared off from Canton Island which has been declared secure. An enemy carrier force still lurks near the island, but is expected to withdraw due to lack of fuel

kaleun -> RE: Battle of Howards island (2/2/2006 6:34:53 AM)

Another allied carrier is lost. Yorktown is lost near howards Island, after successfully attacking and sinking (we believe) two enemy escort carriers. The enemy main carrier force feinted towards Palmyra, but turned back on itself during the night and appeared within range of Yorktown which had made a high speed run from Suva to attack the withdrawing escort carriers. The Kate torpedoes made short work of the gallant ship.
Now only Enterprise, in drydock remains to oppose the designs of the evil Halsey-san and his minions

That's why I stay out of the line of fire until my ships have a chance of hitting back. It's one thing to have your CVs sitting at anchor during most of 1942 while the Japanese run rampant. It's another thing to have your CVs sitting at the bottom of the Pacific during most of 1942 while the Japanese can run anywhere they want without fear...

But, if you save your CVs, you lose 4 Essex class anyway! [8|] Can't get around this frustrating design regardless.[8D]

veji1 -> RE: Battle of Howards island (2/4/2006 12:24:30 PM)

my God, you guys should take a break from the game and come back fresn ( althoughi guess ADavidB did ). Of course throwing the CVs piecemeal to the KB for her to chew is suicidal, but docking them in port for all 42 is just plain.... boring !!

What's the fun if the japs don't see a single US CV till 43, and then the US don't see any jap CV for the rest of the war ?

4 Us CV used wisely while KB or part of KB is spotted somewhere can be deadly efficient and allow the allies to take a foothold in the Gilberts for example very early...

I don't mean to be rude and I understand from my feeble experience that my record doesn't compare to those of Ron and ADavidB, but for me this game is still a game, and is time consuming enough for it not to be boring as well...

Sorry for you Kaleun, but this will make for a great battle latter in the war..

ADM Halsey -> RE: Battle of Howards island (2/5/2006 7:44:52 PM)

I have another game going where 2 American carriers ran into the Japanese carrier force. I lost the Lexington and Enterprise but put 2 to 3 Japanese carriers out of action for a while. They lost the bulk of there good pilots during that battle since the Zeros did not escort the bombers. I was where you are Pedro before but you can come back from this.

Good Luck!

Yep, because you will at least get those missing Essexes. It is tough though.
