Make an all out push, don't divide your forces. if it doesn't set your timetable back then bring in the three extra divisions.

I will do a full run down tonight when I get home but I already have concentrated more forces than I can use in the East for Tinian I dont have the lift for the 1st wave. So far I think I have 16 Armoured Bns and about 20 Inf Divs (including 2 Marine and 3 Aus Divs) I think you are correct after I take Marianas or at least take one or two and neutralise the rest then having the forces ready to exploit towards PI, Formosa, Hainan, China or Bonins is probably for the best. The plan for Tinian is I am going to take all 16 Armoured bns because they recover damage quickly and combat load on AK's, 2 Corps HQ's an Army HQ, 2 Marine Divs The only question is how many Army Divs to take. 1st Aus Corps (3 Divs) needs another month to recuperate and I would like to add another Div from SWPAC to round it out. I have about 8 US Army Divs fully combat ready. With another 6 needing some time to get ready So that would be 10 Divs in 2 Corps with 16 Armoured Bns, 2 Corps Arty Groups and an Army level Corps Arty Gp. That should be enough for Tinian I would hope...

Pauk probably has 100,000 men on Tinian and you will be able to walk ashore on the minefields so this will not be easy. Tonight I am going to do a full thorough review and decide who is going. Currently I have 28 Carriers of all types and 9 BB's to escort the attack. Andy

Bring in as much as you possibly can lift. With such an important strategic objective there is no overkill. Bogging down is not an option. Also, keep atleast some of your supplies in separate ships , you probably already do but i'd mention it just to be sure as it has come back to haunt me many times. Supplies in ships with troops land only after troops have landed... If you have the option, include the heavily armed and armored eire class PG's in your invasion tf's. Naturally, if you have enough available, an old battleship in every landing force will also be nice, or a heavy cruiser atleast. But you should be well versed in the art of opposed landings by now so you probably already know all that [:)]

Advice is always usefull String - I have a track record for leaving stuff behind on amphib ops !!!! I have enough LST assault lift for 3 Divs Small AP's for 1 Allowing 25 AK's per Div thats another 8 Max Saving some AK's for pure supply and some for the Armoured Regts The Big AP's will take Aviation Regt, Base Force and Corps HQ's So I can lift in one load max 12 Divs, 16 Armoured Regts, 2 Corps, 1 Army HQ and 1 Av Regt/Base Force/2 x Seabee Bn's Most of my cruiser force is unfortuantely in SEAC so I am short of these ships although I have 10 BB's to offset this weakness and lots of Fletcher Class DD's. Its going to be interesting.....

I Offered Pauk a CV stacking rule months ago he said it was too late as he had already taken advantage of not destacking his carriers - fair play to Pauk. This means I have no stacking limits on my aircraft carriers so I will have 26 Escort Carriers (I think 4 are CVR's) and 3 Fleet and 3 Light Carriers all covering the invasion force.... This is going to be crazy !!!!

See I told you Marianas were the way to go. With them you have a wedge pointing at so many strategic locations for Japan, he has too much ground to cover.

OK guys now it gets interesting Pauk is going to have to send fighters to the HI he will have no choice Out of 48 bombers sortied 38 hit Akita now that is not bad.....the oil refinery is down to 68/100 so BDA has to be happy I have ordered a follow up raid on the other HI Oil Refinery. The B29's will need to rest after two back to back ops but the shock value is what I want to drive home. The damage is nothing to be unhappy about either !!!!

OK 7 days have passed since my last update and a lot has happned. Destroyers have raided Palembang (with heavy losases to mines) B24's and B29's supported but sweeps from Bankha have caused heavy casualties. I figure Pauk has lost 300 fighters defending Palembang a loss rate he cannot sustain. 5th Indian Div plus other forces have arrived at Mandalay I have alos sortied Eastern Fleet to try and get Pauks atteniton in the West. All the time my forces are loading in the East. Nearly 1,000 ships inclung 10 BB's, 32 Carriers and 150 Destroyers are on the move the fleet is currently assembling at French Frigate Shoals where all the TF's are rendevouing. I have put every bomber on Naval Search/ASW I need to keep Jap subs away until I am little further West

I really hope that Pauk will keep trying to fight for palembang I need to keep his attention focussed in the West. I am tempted to send the Eastern Fleet TF round to the other side of Sumatra to threaten Batavia. Pauk knows I have a TF West of Sumatra lets try and build a little paranoia !!! All I need is a few days of misdirection and Pauk will be in a world of pain....

I have ordered the Joint RN/USN Saratoga Battle Group NW of sumatra and will run em down the western side the plan as always is to keep Pauk focussed on the West The Invasion TF heading for the Marianas is now 360 miles due west of French Frigate Shoals I want to get as close as possible before detection.....

Last turn the Invasion fleet arrives south of Midway keep on chugging along at 3 hexes per day In the West the pressure mounts on Palembang now at 50% Oil Capacity

Looks like a big fight over Palembang today lots of allied losses but also lots of Japanese fighters shot down - I just need to keep Pauk looking West I have 500,000 men at sea at risk just now although they are covered by 30 Carriers, 10 BB's and over 250 other warships I can take no risks with this Armada they must get closer undetected. All efforts are being made to keep Pauk looking West.... Whatever the cost I MUST attrit his fighters and suck his units away from the main axis of attack. I think I have the naval airpower to take KB in the East and after Tico and Bennington arrive I am 100% certain of it (ETA 9 days at San Francisco with 40 F6F's and 36 F4U1D's each !!!) this doubles my fleet based corsairs and Hellcats.. We Must at all costs keep Pauk looking West. Subs are eing moved into a long arc slowly covering West to North of the Marianas.

If I can get to near Wake undetected I will give this operation a high success factor if Pauk knows what I am up to KB will be hovering near Appari but I don't think he does know what I am up to !!! But you never know he is sneaky and has won the carrier battles so far I feel a lot safer when Tico and Bennington arrive on station as I have a few to many Wildcats on the fleet for comfort at present.

The plan is to land the assaulting Divisions and HQ's but hold back all the support troops until after the base is secured. As soon as the base is secured but before resistance is totally finished I will begin to attack the other islands in that way I am not leaving to many forces on any one island for a long time.

Good good TF's still undetected now 120 miles west of Midway I will need to refuel at Wake (500k fuel waiting for my thirsty TF's) I had a bad day in the air today Pauk came back and ht my air fleets hard. Only 1 Sqn of B29's are now in the West but they are active trying to keep Pauk convinced I have a lot of strength in the West. Still no sign of the Jap Carriers I hope this diversion is working... My Carriers are now low on fuel and need to head to Ceylon. Saratoga is at 20 sys which is to high they need some yard time

And another turn passes.....1,800 miles to go....the invasion fleet is making 180 miles a day so thats 10 days. Allow another for a refuelling stop at Wake so we are at D DAY - 11.. The great thing about this plan if the diversion works its great if it doesnt I still have the strength to go in....unlike previous plans I dont need the diversion to work but it would be helpfull !!! B 29's and B24's put on LR Naval Search today lets light em up and see what we shall see.

I would feel a lot better if I knew where int he blazes KB is. Last ID was at or around north Borneo about 14 days ago. Allowing 10 hexes per day plus 1 refueling stop I estimate its about 7 days steaming to Marianas I have not been detected (i think) and I am probably 10 days steaming from the Marianas SO what does all this mean well if I can remain undetected for 3 days and IF Pauk still has his carriers watching North Borneo then he will not be able to intervene until 8th Armies assault Divisions are ashore. About 15 are moving in advance of the fleet or moving to interdict marianas Another 10 are in two packs 1 west of PI and the other off of Okinawa. lastly 2 are in the Borneo Channel All others are damaged and under repair or en route to repair yards HK Groups and Air ASW are criminally effective Another day of nothing much happening my forces are now 300 miles from Wake and will fuel in 2 days
