General Lee -> producing 0 food (10/21/2005 7:14:57 PM)

I apologize if this is a question thats already been answered somewhere in these forums. First off I have two problems. First off for some reason every once in a while during the battles sequences, in a quick battle my troops will automatically surrender, it will just speed through the placement. And the other, bigger problem is that for some reason, out of nowhere my cities will stop producing food, I don't mean less food I mean no food. Atfirst I thought maybe its because of Winter, but the most recent one was in July. This is causing MASSIVE DEATHS, im losing 22 russian civilians every month. This has happened several times but never to this extent. I also must mention that the labor allocation for food is all the way up, and yet 0 food.

carnifex -> RE: producing 0 food (10/21/2005 10:51:29 PM)

when the food shortage happens, what does it say in your economic report? is your food income zero or like in the image below, 269 or something?

carnifex -> RE: producing 0 food (10/21/2005 10:52:20 PM)

and if it's a number greater than zero, is it all being eaten perhaps?

General Lee -> RE: producing 0 food (10/22/2005 1:41:46 AM)

I had only looked at the development screen and the how much food would be made through labor allocation. Only a few cities, mostly my giant cities like moscow were making food for the whole nation and it just wasnt enough. I had about 64 cities. I will check that though and get back to you on it

Naomi -> RE: producing 0 food (10/22/2005 3:42:44 AM)

Waste set in.

General Lee -> RE: producing 0 food (10/22/2005 8:14:41 AM)

yeah what I dont get is it says that several trade routes are broken due to russian shortfalls.

General Lee -> RE: producing 0 food (10/22/2005 8:15:16 AM)

it says that waste is at 105%. that really sucks

Naomi -> RE: producing 0 food (10/22/2005 8:49:49 AM)

A case of my "wasted nation".

General Lee -> RE: producing 0 food (10/23/2005 5:59:54 AM)

so at 105% waste, its wasting everything the nation produces in a month? If so then whats the point of a large empire?

Well that's the point... Large empires are difficult to control. The game reflects this reality quite nicely with waste.

Hard Sarge -> RE: producing 0 food (10/23/2005 8:00:23 AM)

what verison you running ? 1, 1.1 ? try the open beta patch, we got ways to lower Waste in the latest patch

Naomi -> RE: producing 0 food (10/23/2005 11:00:49 AM)

In older versions, as far as I experienced, there was no waste in such magnitude as 105%. Let's forget old good days; a simple route to waste, I suggest, is to set newly conquered lands free, if you - like me - ever find decorating culture or courts a bit too time-consuming. [sm=00000028.gif]

mogami -> RE: producing 0 food (10/23/2005 3:49:53 PM)

Hi, Also I think a single rebel (or enemy) unit is enough to halt all production in province

General Lee -> RE: producing 0 food (10/24/2005 1:21:25 AM)

Im using the 1.2 beta patch, and I understand that theres going to be waste but to the extent of everything going to waste, I thought that the whole point of the empire is to build a massive one, grab some Lebensraum.

Naomi -> RE: producing 0 food (10/24/2005 8:29:02 AM)

Empires, in COG, are little more than huge lump-sums of areas. It's hoped that, one day, Nappy'll play his role as he did 200 years ago in codifying and administering reforms to better manage (those evils in) his empire.

General Lee -> RE: producing 0 food (10/24/2005 9:39:17 AM)

ok then i guess i gotta get rid of vast amounts of my empire, what do any of you suggest I do?

Azog -> RE: producing 0 food (10/24/2005 10:30:32 AM)

First I would try to upgrade the courts. Somewhere it is posted, that when courts get to level "donowhat", the province doesnt count for waste. Or something like that. Try it.

Naomi -> RE: producing 0 food (10/24/2005 2:42:36 PM)

I'm short of ideas; I've got enough of my failure to keep my own house in order.

Hard Sarge -> RE: producing 0 food (10/24/2005 3:06:22 PM)

okay, first off, how many of these Provinces do you own that are protectorates ? those don't count for Waste

you need to build up your Courts to level 5, and then it does not count towards the total of provinces needed to get waste started

hassle is, you have already got a very bad waste going, so it will be HARD to start upgradeing

so, if you can, you should see about what Provinces you can make into Protectorates

if that does not get your waste to a level you can at least work with, then think about making some trades, offer them in treaties, make some friends by giving away lands :)

which, so saying, you want to get rid of a number of your backward provinces, Russia has a lot of them at start, Turkey does also

but overall, the next game you start, make sure you (if nothing else) slowly start building up your homeland, so it can support itself

for treaties, don't just make land grabs, get land you need, or want, for a reason, just land for land sake is not good

okay, here is a shot of my Nation, I have 111 Provinces

ericbabe -> RE: producing 0 food (10/24/2005 3:10:55 PM)

Here's the section from the version history regarding the new waste rules. In short, you need to keep up building courts/culture if you're planning to have an enormous empire:

***************************
* NEW WASTE RULES *
***************************

Waste is now a reduction in the amount of resources produced by provinces a nation controls. Waste is calculated based on the total number of provinces a player controls; provinces with Court developments at a level greater than or equal to 5 do not contribute toward waste. Waste is 3% per province controlled in excess of twenty provinces; so, for example, controlling 35 provinces results in a 45% loss of production due to waste: 45% = 3% x (35-20).

Province under protectorate do not contribute toward waste.

Provinces with Culture development levels greater than or equal to 5, and provinces with Courts greater than or equal to 7, are not affected at all by a nation's level of waste.

(In response to feedback I am planning to cap waste at 90% in the next build...)

Naomi -> RE: producing 0 food (10/24/2005 3:35:06 PM)

Would the waste level also grow at a diminishing rate?
Or, would it - at least - approach less fast to such a cap?

General Lee -> RE: producing 0 food (10/25/2005 2:51:53 AM)

ok then, i have only 3 protectorates since I used use coup's to get most of my western lands. Alot of my land though still retains its former national identity so I can change them into protectorates. The only thing im worried about though, is getting the maximum production out of protectorates. Does anyone know how i can do this? If for example i can set the labor allocation and then turn it into a protectorate and the labor allocation stays the same?

General Lee -> RE: producing 0 food (10/25/2005 6:13:50 AM)

now ive made much of my land into protectorates and according to the economic advisor there is still 105% waste despite the fact most of my land is now protectorates which arent supposed to count towards waste. I thought perhaps I just have to go a couple of turns to get the economy back to normal. Well 44 dead population later and its the same, any ideas?

What version are you playing?

General Lee -> RE: producing 0 food (10/25/2005 6:39:20 AM)

1.2 beta

Hard Sarge -> RE: producing 0 food (10/25/2005 2:51:31 PM)

well, if you havn't been able to get enough provinces to Protectorate status, you may need to look at how many troops you got

if you wern't upgradeing your lands, you had to be building something, you may have way too many troops for your lands to support

look and see how much food your troops are needing each turn

still not sure that will help that much, you got too much waste going on, you need to get your province total down, and your upgrades up

not sure how you got that big, with out having trouble before this, you should of fell apart a long time ago

TexHorns -> RE: producing 0 food (10/25/2005 5:22:52 PM)

I've allowed the development advisor do my provincial development and he seems to have concentrated on farms and banks. As Russia with 35 provinces, only one protecterate, I have plenty of food. Money has run low at times and the army and navy have disbanded units, but my population continues to grow. I have many provinces maxed out on farm development.

That sounds like a bug...Eric, check to make sure the waste code realizes when a previously conquered province becomes a protectorate.

Naomi -> RE: producing 0 food (10/25/2005 7:30:52 PM)

Ah, it's broken. I was bound to grant people self-determination.

Hard Sarge -> RE: producing 0 food (10/26/2005 4:20:43 AM)

don't jump the gun

I think he has too many provinces that count as waste and he is at the top of the waste loss, he has lowered his numbers, but is still too many over the top, so it does not show any change
