BlackSunshine -> Couple of Quick Questions... (10/29/2005 8:09:07 AM)

Well I seem to have forgotten a lot since my UV days. I have some questions for the masses.

Should my Level Bombers or any other land based bombers be using Naval Search? I thought I read somewhere that the chances to launch and air attack would be lessened unless the actual attacking forces also spotted the target?

Is there any advantage to having say... Catalinas on 100% nav search, and Level Bombers at the same base flying at 10%? Obviously I will spot more targets, but does this approve chances to attack?

Someone please help me understand a little better the way "Set Future Objective" works. How long do I keep them and what exactly do planning points do besides allow you to train troops?

I rarely use my bombers on Naval Search just because of operational losses. Especially the high skilled bomber groups, but I’d defiantly consider it with some lower skilled pilots. I’ve herd it will even slowly increase their experience. Since I play Japan I worry too much about my bomber groups; they seem awfully fragile. As allied I’d use Naval Search more.

I don’t think it matters what group spots the target. I doubt if just because your bomber group spotted the target they're more likely to strike.

Set Future Objective, to me, is like the unit taking the time to prepare for its objective rather than hastily charge for it. It’s something to do when you are planning a major strike in the future and you want the best odds possible. I would assume that some “prep” is better than none but I always try and go for 100%. Setting a Future Objective reduces the casualties while unloading troops over a hostile base and it helps your unit defend a base that’s set as its FO.

Naval search done with your heavies lets your opponent know where your heavies are...make him work for that info.

The higher percentage on naval search increases fatigue and that increases ops losses. Just find a happy medium that you are satisfied with.

The higher your prep points, the lower the disruption and such upon landing at that objective. Prep bast 100% and the unit has a dice roll to increase their experience level.

When playing with historical first turn turned off, do Japanese units get their prep points set to 100 on the first turn when they change their objectives? If not, I think they should because it's reasonable to assume that the first turn move that replaces the historical one was plotted many weeks in advance.

How long can a unit keep it's prep points? Let's say I have a ground unit set with Rabul as it's future objective. That unit stays in it's original hex for a couple of years training and increasing it's prep points to 100. Does that unit keep it's prep points at 100 no matter how long it sits there? What if the unit decides to attack a different target? Does it still keep the prep points?

Another question... Are there overstacking penalties? Or as long as I have an airfield large enough, enough support, etc. will operations at that base run smoothly?

Also... I really don't like the way HQ are modeled in comparison to how they were in UV. Are there any HQ units with a fairly large range? It seems to me that it is near impossible to get HQ bonus when attacking, because there aren't many HQ units, and those that are have dozens of units attached to them. Any secrets or tips here?

Thanks for the replies btw. [:)]

Prep points stay at 100% no matter where you go or how long you take. It only takes a few months to get to 100.

You can have 50 a/c per size of airbase. More than this and you suffer 25% cut in launched missions. Base more than 100 a/c per airbase size and you suffer a 50% penalty. See manual section 9.4

As for HQs I haven't paid too much attention up to now - must try harder in future [:D]
