After reading all the above, it seems to me the Japanese can deploy to attack the Russians where they are weak and the Russian can not react at all. In the game the Russians are prevented from doing so which is not realistic. In both cases the Japanese player is exploiting a weakness in the game design, to possible win early without any significant battles in a non-historical way. Similar in computer War in Europe, the computer controlled Russia ignores a German conquest of Sweden and/or significant buildup in Finland so as not to reinforce the Baltic ports or Finnish border. In either game, it is certian you will win but what exactly are you playing? A Japanese infantry winter offensive into Russia, the latter have vast superiority in artillery, armor, winter acclimation, stubborness on defense; does not seem realistic except in the mind of a programmer not mitigating such a possiblity. I would agree the easiest fix is to force the Russian activation X number of turns prior to an Japanese invasion so the Russians can redeploy to the actual threat. Too bad they cannot be unactivated should Japan not DOW/attack. The computer deployment of Russian forces seems based on historical basis where it was almost confirmed that Japan had not intention of opening that front. Perhaps I am assuming such a strategy is highly likely to achieve success. I am still inactive in my first game (my IJ opponent will have to spend weeks to define what kind of engines, bullets, and shoelaces to produce); I am speaking as an interested observer. One can defeat any game design by doing things not anticipated by the designer. In computer war in europe, the programmer put in options so Germans can ignore winter and supply problems in Russia. These items were the foundation of the boardgame designer 30 years earlier. With such changes, it is no longer the same game other than in name. If I am to commiting to a campaign game only to effectively end early due to my Japanese opponent exploiting a weakness in the game design, I would rather not play and let the opponent claim the championship of the world if they promise never to play again. I have a CWIE opponent oblivious to the fact that all of us playing him are aware he exclusively rolls 6s on all key attacks in all games (going back to save if not a 6). He will soon run out of people to play as the gaming community is limited and have the ability to communicate with one another. Such people should play AI exclusively as must be use to playing games unlimited lives, ammo, and hint books. They are not really playing the game.
