thufir -> Spontaneous Production? (11/10/2005 3:21:24 AM)

So I have noticed playing France that sometime in the first year several provinces might begin to produce units all on their own. So far as I can tell, I have turned off all advisors (unless there's some sneaky ones out there in some kind of un-obvious location?).

I guess this is to be expected. for protectorates, but it also happens in provinces which I can do province management for. Now, in France's case, there are several provinces which like protectorates show "dual flagging" (by this I mean they show a small minor country flag over the French flag), but still allow the French player to fully manage the province. I'm not 100% sure, but I'd bet that all those provinces that are the ones that are spontaneously producing are the same provinces that have this dual flagging.

Can anyone tell me if this spontaneous production is drawing off resources?

Also, is there any way to turn off this spontaneous production? Mostly it is producing units that I don't want to have even the burden of supplying/maintaining. Personally, I would turn off even the protectorates unit production, if I could. If this feature does not exist, I for one would vote for adding this as an option in some future patch.

TIA,

Thufir

Really check again the advisors. Last day I was complaining also about some other thing, and I realized that I had turn on my tactical advisor. I was surprised because I didnt remember turning it on. Check anyway the report you have always as a kind of "pop up" when a new turn begins, and look if somewhere is written something like "The baron of Munchhausen (...donowhat...) levy in Piedmont" . This should give you a clue.

Some of your provinces will raise feudal levies every April. I doubt that it's your advisors

the french dont normally have feudal levies do they? they are one of the least feudal nations on the board...

yes, but you still have to lower your feudal rates, or they will raise the levies

Simply set the duties where they best fit in with your view of history. ^o^

Or just ignore the "feudal" before the "levies"; Nappy was never lenient in his drafting policy, and much less so when his warfare turned sour in his last years on throne.

Thanks Grand_Armee & Hard Sarge - it was the feudal levies. I don't see much reason not to lower that to zero, the morale hit is just for a few turns, it looks like I get an income bonus (which will only increase as I produce more merchants), and I really am not looking for the troop types produced in the levies anyhow.

Looks like it wasn't the feudal level after all - I've had it down to zero for over a year and a half now, and still on the last two Aprils new units are produced. I've unchecked all advisors on province screens and each of the four main screens (economy, military, diplomacy and development), and still this spontaneous production continues. Perhaps your feudal level increases/decreases the number of levies, but even bringing feudal level down to zero does not turn this off entirely?

Well, I'd have to guess this is working as designed, but I for one would like an option to turn this off.

Shed the colonies, let go of the protectorates, and unbundle the confederations and kingdoms. They all matter in free-unit making. [sm=00000028.gif]
