Raverdave -> RE: war as usual (1/20/2006 11:53:42 AM)

I counter attack when it suits me to counter attack[:'(]

Sneer -> RE: war as usual (1/20/2006 12:07:17 PM)

or when you are forced to - i.e. China :-)

Sneer -> RE: war as usual (1/20/2006 12:29:26 PM)

05/24/42
usual air activity in china - over 400 sorties every day
troops entered empty Sian
chinase troops disappeared - trap ????
I thought about such possibility
if so I can withdraw to fort 3 Homan - now 38 units heading Kungchang are cut off
one more possibility is that there is no supply in chinase bases so cutting off this troops doesn't change anything
what would be a purpose of offensive?
take kungchang/lanchow free supply and live of land - chungking would be major defensive point of chinase defensive
BTW second DD that enetred minefield in previous week sunk during movement to PH

On the other hand I will not attack enemy that is cut off base - too costful for me - I'll blockade this force for 4-5 months and see what will be left willing to surrender

Sneer -> RE: war as usual (1/21/2006 11:10:36 AM)

sweep over Benares brought terrible result for allies
I try to keep exp high so losses are really low
asw warfare in central pac as raver tries to keep his comunication lines clean

Raverdave -> RE: war as usual (1/21/2006 3:15:05 PM)

ASW seems to be working well................I need to cull the sub threat (and also those bloody recon subs).

Sneer -> RE: war as usual (1/21/2006 6:37:38 PM)

My sub captains complained about ASW TFs
short action just to keep Raver alerted - 2 DD survived damaged - sb will ask where are US CV
I guess that either in PH or in Brisbane what is totally unimportant now
Central Pac is not a safe place in 42 for allies - My two cents - why rush in early days for Central Pac if you rule there in mid 42 ???
Japanese power is reaching its peak now
Ichang taken - will be fortified together with Sian
If Raver will not enter Kungchang in 1-2 days I assume he tries to reach road Kungchang- Yenen moving cross-country - this would support my thesis that there is no supply in chinase bases and all supply is with his units on soldiers backs
by the time they reach road they will be 100% starved [:D] - welcome party is organized with 1.5k AP there and Kungchang units should be available too
soon ,I hope, weather will be good enough to bomb this formation out

Raverdave -> RE: war as usual (1/22/2006 3:58:34 AM)

These jap CVs are starting to get annoying.[:-]

Luskan -> RE: war as usual (1/22/2006 9:28:57 AM)

. . . Must . . . .resist . . . urge . . . to . . . challenge . . . sneer.

If only I had time for another game (or the games I have now). Sooner or later Sneer, I'll play the allies and you can try your singapore banzai move on me.

You've certainly given Raver a lot of bruises - enough that point wise he can't win the game. But Raver isn't about points - you'll all notice how well he took those opening hits (playing the surprise house rules as well?).

Sneer , I admit, the amount of utility you have got out of your CVs is admirable - especially the way your LBA and KB closed the SRA down on turn 1, however you have not landed any critical punches yet. My feeling is the KB pilots lost at PH are worth it if you can get 4 or more allied BBs. Especially if you can get an extra one with a sub as it limps back to the west coast. That is 4 very large AAA platforms that won't be protecting his invasion TFs later on.

Raver is very adept at luring idiot pilots out to attack floating AA fortresses - and for all the noise he his making on this AAR "woe is india, oh the pain, British Empire in ruins" etc. I can't help but feel he is secretly pleased you didn't invade northern Oz.

The Japs original strategy is equally true for Raver - you have to pick something that he CAN'T loose (because of pride or whatever) and make him fight for it to pin his CVs and BBs down into a fight.

Watching with interest.

Sneer -> RE: war as usual (1/22/2006 9:54:15 AM)

he is too smart to enter battle in 42 cos he knows I can kick him hard
basicly everything else than full scale Oz invasion or PH landing would be enough
Once I almost caught his CV at Dutch Harbour - recon is sth I'm proud of
PH has much too high variability of results
most of my PBEM results were 1-2 with 70-80 planes lost and that's why I developed alternate strategy
AA platforms - sinking POW is worth alternate strategy
as far as points are concerned ... 5,5:1 but we don't have autovictory in mind
I just optimize my defensive plans - so nothing that's exposed to allies is not taken hard or attacked -- doesn't mean I don't want to hurt him more in 42

Sneer -> RE: war as usual (1/22/2006 9:55:20 AM)

points as we entered June

Sneer -> RE: war as usual (1/22/2006 9:57:13 AM)

picture of the day is kungchang situation
today 16 hurris lost for 1 zero over benares - looks like building up exp in UK air forces is deadly in nature

Will you please[/i] shutup ! [;)] Actually I would NOW welcome an assault on Darwin or even anyway in Northern Oz........but Sneer is way to smart for that. IF he had tried to invade Oz then I would have used my CVs.......one does have to think of his pride.

A match between Sneer and Luskan would be one that I would pay to watch......Sneer and Luskan are both on an equal level so it would be a rather interesting game.

Sneer -> RE: war as usual (1/22/2006 10:55:47 AM)

I fear that unless I got unemployed I have no chance for second fast pace PBEM game[8D]
But I would gladly challenge Luskan as well ...
sooner or later I'll take a gauntlet don't worry
now I'm happy this game moves really fast and it is more important to see what next than start another game

well I was really scared tonight
I expected Inf rgt there and if it was there it would be extremaly difficult
CD guns made sth beyound belief
10k shots to landing forces
3 AP and 7 MSW lost many ships damaged
but now the ring of patrol planes is broken and I can harass enemy supply lines also easy transport of short legged a/c to OZ is over.
with 1 full crack division and equivalent of second one it will take a long time for allied to be ready for central Pac offensive

Sneer -> RE: Canton Isl taken (1/22/2006 2:55:12 PM)

quick watch at ground forces losses
I lost 4 points x 6 x10 men for a total of 240 men
Raver lost 348 points x 3 x 10 men for a total 10460
looks like almost all losses are disruption ones and wounded
it was not as bloody as thought
CD units is overrated but everybody knows it and I don't mind that as soon Raver will in target crosshairs retaking many of my bases from sea

Raverdave -> RE: Canton Isl taken (1/22/2006 11:21:23 PM)

Well if CD units are over rated then how come you have so many damaged and sinking sihips?[:D]

Capt. Harlock -> RE: Canton Isl taken (1/23/2006 12:58:24 AM)

I had thought from some of the AAR's that pre-invasion bombing and shelling seemed to do little good. (You may remember that by 1945 the Japanese decided not to contest at the water's edge because the preliminary bombardments were so effective.) But now we've seen just how lethal CD batteries can be without any softening up. Raver, would you mind telling us just what guns you had there?

One other point: It seems to me Sneer got very lucky in that shock attack, or the defending troops were not very experienced.

Sneer -> RE: Canton Isl taken (1/23/2006 4:41:45 AM)

it was adjusted 7:1 after landing so rule take just one more unit worked
there was crack 95 exp inf division + 4 big navy inf units + combat eng
agaist aviation + 2 eng + 2 marine CD

Raverdave -> RE: Canton Isl taken (1/23/2006 12:29:30 PM)

....and Sneer did not do any pre-bombardment softening up either. The repair yards at Singers and Kure will be busy for months.[:D]

Sneer -> RE: war as usual (1/23/2006 1:31:40 PM)

yes my fault
just tempo of our game was too fast and did not switch from surface combat

Sneer -> Massacre over Lautem (1/23/2006 1:50:19 PM)

Raver wanted to strike back - loss of Canton must be more painful than readable from comments

3 zero groups intercepted bombing raid over lautem
5 zero lost for
12 P40B
32 Hudsons
5 B-17

I noticed that there were 13 000 allied casualties. Looks like quite heavy CD units lossess but were there any infantry units there?

Sneer -> RE: Massacre over Lautem (1/24/2006 11:56:36 AM)

2 marine CD + aviation+2 eng
no inf - probably I would take it but losses wouldn't be one-sided
