6971grunt -> Meaning of "Allow Replacements" button and more (11/22/2005 7:37:41 PM)

I have been playing WiTP for some time and I thought I knew the answer to my own question. Those little buttons we all click - what do they mean - do they mean the opposite of what they state?

What I'm getting at is this - when your buttons state "Allow Replacements", or Repair - "Yes", or Refit "Yes", etc., I have always assumed that the opposite occurs. For example, when "Allow replacements" is showing your ARE NOT getting replacments and in order to get replacements the button has to show "no replacements".

This seems to be true, when you have "undock" showing and you see that your TF is "docked". The rules don't address this.

Whatever the button shows (allow replacements, docked, etc.) tell you what will happen when if you click the button. How can you remember this? Look at a TF in a base hex. If it is docked, the TF commander can be replaced. If the TF is not docked, he can't be replaced.

They did it logically by making half the buttons mean you click on it to give the results shown, and half the buttons to click on it to REVERSE the results shown.[8|] Thus, they don't have to mention what it means in the rule book because half the time it means one thing, and half the time another...

You have to learn what each and every button does by experience. SOmetimes you can figure it out by messing around for a while (like in the example given: - am i docked? let's see if i can replace a commander?!!) , and sometimes not.

WITP never won any awards for its user interface.

Not even one for the worst possible UI that could be programmed?

It was nominated, but all the judges went insane attempting to ascertain how bad it is. [:'(]

G'Day Grunt6971

sorry to throw a spanner in the works here ..... but.

When starting a new game you can choose your game options, replacements is one of them.
Accept air and ground replacements.
Red for off
Green for on.

Turn your replacement on (Green).
Now start your new game and see what your replacement button on your unit screen states.

You guessed it, accept replacements.

Final analysis: What the replacement button states is what the unit is doing and not the opposite.
It's only my two cents worth but I hope it helps.

This is Sparrow [8D]

SGT Swanson -> RE: Meaning of "Allow Replacements" button and more (11/29/2005 3:17:18 AM)

Hey Sparrow, did your sister survive the war with the resistance? I'll give you a hint: It was a war movie made a long time ago with 4 supurbe actors staring in it.

If you don't get it, then stay tuned for the answer, and I'll name the movie and name names.

moses -> RE: Meaning of "Allow Replacements" button and more (11/29/2005 3:19:35 AM)

AHHHHHHHHHH!!! !!!!!!! Don't make me think of what button to press. I've been playing so long that I just know how to set the buttons.

If you make me think I will screw up!!!! Which way was it now?????!!!!!!

SGT Swanson -> RE: Meaning of "Allow Replacements" button and more (11/29/2005 4:31:28 AM)

Just press the damn button!![:-] What's the worst that can happen[&:] You blow up the world[&:] Hey!, we all have to go sometime[8D][;)]

Sparrow -> RE: Meaning of "Allow Replacements" button and more (11/29/2005 3:19:52 PM)

You've got me baffled me Sarge.

Before I hit the red, cut the green and start the purle, what's the name of the movie?

This is Sparrow[8D]

SGT Swanson -> RE: Meaning of "Allow Replacements" button and more (11/30/2005 2:17:00 AM)

The movie was the "Guns of Navarone"

Starring:

Gregory Peck
David Niven
Richard Attenbough
-- and --
Anthony Quin

Sparrow was a resistance fighter who had left the Island in the early part of the war, and was picked to help the team with navigating the Island. There was 2 resistance fighters whom the group met on the Island and one of them was his sister. After they blew up the guns (Sparrow was killed while executing a diversionary attack). Sparrow's sister decided to stay on the Island and continue the fight. Hence my question.

Sparrow -> RE: Meaning of "Allow Replacements" button and more (11/30/2005 3:29:04 PM)

G'Day Sarge

No Hollywood connection when it comes to Sparrow ... Sorry.

However the name Sparrow comes from one half of a TV duo.
Magpie and Sparrow, Australian wannabe bushrangers.
The lads weren't to clever or coordinated but that was many years ago.

During your games how are you setting the replacement button, I'm curious.

This is uncoordinated Sparrow[8D]

Gem35 -> RE: Meaning of "Allow Replacements" button and more (11/30/2005 5:29:11 PM)

I set the global button at game options screen to off and when the time comes in game, I selectively allow replacements when needed. I dont want units in the north pacific to get much needed replacements and or equipment before the boys fighting for their lives in the southwest pacific do, especially if replacements are scarce.[sm=Cool-049.gif]

6971grunt -> RE: Meaning of "Allow Replacements" button and more (11/30/2005 10:31:13 PM)

Whoa Ke-mo-sabe! [X(] Does that hold true for "Automatic Convoy On"? Thus the port DOES recieve automatic convoy when "On"? Man, I'm now very confused[sm=Crazy-1271.gif].

So if your master buttons at the commencement of the game are "off", it will be accurately reflected on the panel and to change it you need to click the button?[sm=00000734.gif]?
