Greywolf -> AV support over 250 (11/26/2005 12:48:55 AM)

Are they truly useless or did they affect the repair rate ?

Gem35 -> RE: AV support over 250 (11/26/2005 2:38:39 AM)

Speaking from my own expereinces playing the Allies against the jap AI, I have used Darwin as a staging base for my AirForces that reinforce Ambonia,Koepang and Port Moresby. I have an Air HQ as well as one single ENG squad with 360 AV support. As I have Darwin built up to a size 7 Airfield, I have amassed around the 350 that said field can support without penaalty. On an average day without too many flights, just about every plane there is operational. I have several other bases with 200-250 av support with same operational numbers. I would say that usuing more than 250 isnt going to "hurt" but is it that much of a winning factor? No I would say it isnt. You will see more aircraft damaged from flight ops than damaged because you only had 261 AV support instead of 360.

Yamato hugger -> RE: AV support over 250 (11/26/2005 8:41:00 AM)

The allies get a few AV units with 360 av support in them. I usually strip out as close to 100 as I can without going over for use on other bases. I havent seen anything that would lead me to believe that 360 is better than 250.

I do think that if you are running heavy bomber campaign from base more is better. It "seems" to me that planes repair faster.

This is about what i see also. I haven't played about with larger numbers yet (only into June 1942, plus my opponent has a nasty habbit of pasting any really large air base.)

Greywolf -> RE: AV support over 250 (11/26/2005 9:01:03 PM)

Run some test tonight and the results seems interesting:

edited a fantasy scenario with 3 japanese bases with a 244 Zero unit ( all damaged at start )
all bases with ungodly amount of supply

1st base: AF 7 AVsup 370+21

1st run : 2 then 3 aircrafts repaired
2nd run : 2 then 4 then 2 ac

2nd base: AF9 AVsup 740+10

1st run : 3 then 6 ac
2nd run : 3 then 7 then 10 ac

3rd base: AF9 AVsup 500

1st run : 7 then 4
2nd run : 7 then 3 then 8

Comments: event with 3 time more AVsup then plane the repair rate is quite low at best ( better rate is 8 planes of out 244 in 1 day )

It seems than the AVsup number is not that much important in fact. AF size seems to be the real element.
That and the fact that the more different squadron you have, the faster the repairs are. The total plane repaired doesnt seems to be caped by base, just by air group.

rogueusmc -> RE: AV support over 250 (11/28/2005 4:31:33 AM)

250 is all that is needed to pass that roll to get them to fly...you still need an AV point per damaged airplane to repair them all.

dtravel -> RE: AV support over 250 (11/28/2005 8:21:53 AM)

Rogue, granted that the manual is crappy but that would be radically different than what it says. Usually it is just incomplete or misleading, rather than flat out false, so what are you basing your statement on please?

rogueusmc -> RE: AV support over 250 (11/28/2005 11:25:58 PM)

Just what I have seen...

I had around 400 aircraft at Noumea and something like 350 AV support. When I dropped the AV support to around 150, I had roughly double the damaged aircraft sitting around. Another base force arrived and the number of damaged aircraft went back down.

AV support dropped to 150 or to 250? I want to make sure there isn't a typo there. If it dropped to 150, then yes, you will have more damaged aircraft because it dropped below the requirement. If it dropped to 250, then you may be right and we should try to talk Apollo11 or Feinder or someone into adding another test to their voluntary workloads.

rogueusmc -> RE: AV support over 250 (11/29/2005 12:25:33 AM)

I meant 250...[:(]

dtravel -> RE: AV support over 250 (11/29/2005 12:29:47 AM)

Aren't you glad I asked? [;)]

Okay, so we need some test run to find out. Who should we bully, umm, con, errr, persuade to do the tests? (And don't look at me, I value what little sanity I still too much have to even try to bleep around with the editor.)

That won't happen in my test mod! Took the CHS and ABs map and gutted the resource/oil system. Now all resources in the "islands" are 10% of original (compensated by 90% increase in oil). Merchants can only carry 20% of CHS capacity. Darwin can't be built up like that anymore.
