kaplumber -> AK's do not deploy (11/27/2005 6:43:30 PM)

I am playing the dec 8 41 scenario with 1.795 patch. I am into late january of 42 and have approx. 100 type AK cargo ships at San Fran. Anytime I select AK's to move bases or transport supplies they still show in port on the next turn. I am not having any problem using AK's from other bases to do the same. TK's and AO's are working fine. Am I missing something? I have auto convoy turned off.

Do you have anything at all under computer control? The North Pacific zone, China, Russian Far East Command, submarines, anything at all? If so, turn that off.

You only need to turn off computer control for North Pacific.

If any zone is under computer control, strange things can happen anywhere on the map. Best to turn off computer control on everything.

Yeah, an often repeated statement.
Unfortunatlay, it just isn't true (as long as you play Allied, don't know about Jap side).
Cheers

Yes, it IS true - and have seen it in my own games, as well as others. If it hasn't happened to you, then you are lucky.

EDIT - only have played Allies so far, but also applies to Japanese side from things seen on the board. This statement about computer controls also includes the automatic task force system.

Rainer -> RE: AK's do not deploy (11/28/2005 11:49:59 PM)

The areas South, East and North East under Computer Control cause trouble. In so far you're right (according to my limited experience).
East and North East Area under computer control prevents AK convoys (in fact any AK or TK except Auto Convoy) to leave San Francisco. Funny enough fighting ships are not affected.
South Area under computer control interfers in very strange ways with LCU movement and deployment in Australia and New Guinea.
Otherwise I had no problems with areas under Computer Control (including Auto Convoy).
The point I am trying to make is this: Computer Control is not a bad thing per se. It supposedly has been included to help the (solitair) player. Alas, it has not arrived yet at a stage of development where this goal can be regarded as being achieved. However, if every player asking for opinion about Computer Control is advised to switch it off completely, we will never see any improvement by the developers.
Agreed?
Cheers
Rainer

Re-reading what you said: you're right. It IS tru :)

Well, you do have a point there![:D]

As for improvement, i would like to see other problems that i consider far more serious fixed before the computer controls. Like disappearing units, bizarre land movement, etc.

In my own experience, keeping just CC on the autoconvoy system on was enough to get some really wonky movement of non-convoyed units (primarily naval units in my case). This disappeared as soon as the CC was turned off. Also applied to a lesser degree when i had subs accidentally turned on CC in one game.

I appreciate the help. Worked fine after I tried turning off computer control.

Just out of curiousity, what did you have under computer control?

kaplumber -> RE: AK's do not deploy (11/29/2005 10:41:08 PM)

I had the 3 zones that include Russia, China, and Western Pacific on computer control. I don't remember their id's since I'm at work instead of home. They worked fine until I received the 1/13/42 AK's at SF. All the tankers and oilers deployed. Any AK's from other ports deployed fine. I started another campaign and this one seems OK so far under all human control. You guys are right about the computer control, it's alot when playing solitaire and mainly concentrating on a particular area. I just recently downloaded the game and enjoy the detail and complexity immensely. I look forward to all the bugs getting worked out. Some bugs may also be due to my lack of experience. I noticed some ground and air units are not transportable when I try to load them in the early stages. I assume this is put into the game for historical significance?

You are probably running into "restricted commands". Each unit is assigned an overall HQ, and some are restricted commands, and can not be moved out of their area - so can not be loaded on ships and airplanes. Examples are West Coast, USAFFE, Australian Command, Canadian Command (and there are others).

In order to move these units by ship, etc., you need to first assign them to UNRESTRICTED commands - such as North Pacific, Central Pacific, SE Asia, South Pacific, SW Pacific, etc. Use Political Points (PPs) to do this.

Curty -> RE: AK's do not deploy (12/19/2005 2:11:19 PM)

[:@] You're right there! I have problems with AK's out of San Fran, so i switched off Northern area CC as suggested. The result was odd though...I couldn't form large convoys of AK's but I could form a convoy of up to 5 AK's in size[&:] - Curty

p.s. my version is 1.6
