MALAYA

Air raid against Singapore. I lost 6 Sally. No enemy a/c destroyed and the afld is lightly damaged.

For the rest, a really quiet game. My KB is heading north to Kwajalein to refuel and he's for now out of action.
SSD is heading to Efate, to occupy the base.

PI

One MSW sunk by an allied SS at Lingayen.
I'm doing heavy air raid against Manila every day, since a week. Today 557 casualties among the defenders.

CENT PAC

SS I-153 sunk one AK S of Iwo Jima. What was an AK doing there?

DEI

Damned!! Today I've lost 11 Zero and 3 Sally in Palembang, during an air raid of 36 B-17.
The bombers were escorted by 20 AVG's P-40. 5 P-40 and 1 B-17 shot down. 48 hits on the runway.
Chuck is doing heavy air raid everywhere. This is a dejà-vue. Last time, after an extensive air campaign of a week or so, he sent dozens of ships to Singapore. We'll see if he wants to do the same.

SOUTH PAC

Allied subs are operating well. One AK torpedoed at Truk and one AP at Efate. My ASW TFs are maybe watching TV.
At least SS Cuttlefish, damaged days ago, sunk today.

SW PAC

I captured Efate today, destroying 1 Singapore and 5 PBY.
The 30. AUS Bde crossed over Owen Stanley mountains, from Port Moresby, and arrived at Buna today. They shock attacked but they were repulsed. They will die surely for starvation, if they don't surrender.

CHINA

My troops liberated Kiukiang, previously evacuated by chinese troops.

DEI

I spotted an allied TF SE of Palembang, heading NW. The recon says they are 4 CA. Maybe is the PoW TF that is finally coming back. Better so. Timor area will be free of them.
Anyway I have to dispatch some Nell in Palembang to attack those ships.
About Timor and operation Door Closed.
My invasion flee of Timor is assembling in Ceram Sea. BB Yamato is 8 hexes away from Palau. Seh will refuel and will join the other ships to lead the invasion.

CENT PAC

Another AK damaged by one of my sub E of Canton I.

DEI

Disaster at Palembang. One british TF bombarded the airbase. The TF was composed by BB Revenge and BB Royal Sovereign. So TF of PoW is still around Timor maybe. It will be a tough operation.
Anyway, Chuck organized very very well the day.
Night naval bombardement and, during the day, four air raids, from Java and Sumatra.
Result:

27 Zero destroyed
18 Nell destroyed
7 Sally destroyed
2 Sonia destroyed
65 guns destroyed
1819 casualties

The airport is completely destroyed. Airfield service and runway over 80 damage.

At least I burn out some of his supplies.

DEI

Palembang has been hit again and I lost 6 Zero. While checking my squadron, I saw that I've lost a lot of planes but my pilots are stile alive. At least.

Chuck sent me an e-mail two days ago, with this url:

It's really a disaster. We agree to restart. Maybe in Nick mode. We'll see in a couple of days.

It's not that big a deal. I would not kill a game over it. Patch is coming out soon so just don't use the "Get Pilot" button except to circumvent the no launch issue caused by more aircraft than pilots.

Hi, If you read that thread you'll see the get pilot bug only happens if you are using the beta patch version 1.795.
And the pilots it pulls are pilots assigned to go to that group anyway it just pulls them early.
The Allies don't get pilots they are not scheduled to get. But unless this game is version 1.795 it does not apply.

I also have a game running against the same opponent and I'm also uncertain what to do now.

Patch 1.8 might be still some time away, but on the other hand it might be a way to kill his good pilots with zero bonus early on...

Hi, Your game is version 1.795? (the beta?) If not then the bug is not occuring in your game. If you are using 1.795 then change to 1.77 and it's fixed.

Here's the view from the opponent, having now read this & the US pilot thread. BTW both this game & the one with Mistmatz started with & are using 1.795.

Thanks Mogami for the suggestion - that may help in my game vs Mistmatz.

I just calculated my average USAAF squadron experience in this game. It's 72.9 - quite high on 5 Mar 42 IMO. 32 squadrons - most filled out in full. 7th fighter squadron is defined in the database to come in at 50 exp and is currently at 86. I didn't calculate the bomber experience but it seems about the same. In hindsight, I've had some extraordinarily good results in the air using many of these units. While I want to do well, I don't want to exploit a bug either.

Part of the problem I'm sure is due to me - I hit that "get pilot" button whenever I see it enabled, wherever the unit might be.

In comparison in my game with Mistmatz the avg USAAF exp is even higher - 73.4 (10 Jan 42). 27 squadrons on map. At the same time many of those squadrons are still understrength and hopefully will fill in with normal pilots. Also, since it's earlier, few of those pilots have gotten into action yet.

I've enjoyed the game up to now and learned a lot, and this development will also give me a chance to check out Nik's mod - I've read many good things about it but haven't had time to play it yet.

P.S. Pat - I wasn't ready for you at Timor - I recently moved a couple units out of there. Batavia might have given you a headache though. POW, etc. were at Soerabaja, though I would have sent them if I saw ships sailing towards Timor. POW vs Yamato would have been exciting! How close were you to invading? Maybe a couple of turns just for fun?
