Yup..its down alright.

Its backed-up daily, so the worst that happened is that some posts from yesterday may be lost. Learning the process of restoring the site from the back-ups was on my 'to-do' list, but as of now only Bernie has that ability...sorry. Hopefully he will check in soon and set things right.

Don't worry, as soon as the hacker turns 45, he will move out of his mom's house and have to pay bills. Maybe he won't be able to afford internet services.

Well, I was kinda tired....

But I remember looking at the 'users online' and seeing Wild Bill's name there: maybe he could vouch for me?

FYI: after I saw the 'hacked' site, I ran all my spyware and anti-virus progs ...nothing 'nasty' showed up.

So this is what it's like to be in a lifeboat.

Well, there'd be a whole lot more water (non-potable), crying, and fisticuffs, not bits/bytes, keyboards, and old dudes pretending to be young again...

Ain't the internet great?!?!?!?!?!?!

From Bernie's site...
quote:

Some time during the early morning hours of Dec. 19th, a hacker called "Insomnia" broke into the database that contains all of the information for our forums. The damage is considerable, and will take time and care to repair. We may even lose part, or all, of the forum attachments and messages due to this.

We have reported this matter to the F.B.I. Cyber Crimes unit, and other local, state, Federal, and International law-enforcement agencies, and will cooperate fully with them in their investigations and efforts to track down this individual.

Currently we are attempting to restore as much data as possible from backups, and seal the security hole that allowed this intrusion. This is a long, difficult and expensive process, but we will do our utmost to restore the system as quickly, and completely, as possible. Our forums may be down anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, but we, the Board of Directors, promise you that we will be back online as soon as possible. The Depot will be back!

As I said though, this is not going to be an easy task, so I ask you all to bear with us as we work on it. It is also proving to be a somewhat expensive task, as we will be moving the site to a more secure server, and paying fees for things like data recovery and restoration, as well as a more robust backup configuration. I know that most of you are already "tapped out" from the holidays, and that this is the worst possible time of the year to ask for your financial help for the site, but every donation we can get right now is critical. Please, if you can spare anything at all, even just a dollar, the Depot needs your help and support right now, more than at any time in our history!

bastage is gonna pay!

FWIW: just ran a google and found the Insomnia, formerly called Insomnio (when originally released) has been around since 2000, yet it only managed to infect 4 computers in the USA in that time, its transmitted via Email, and its called a "worm" in one site and a "boot virus" on another. Not trying to be funny but now its infected 5 comps as of yesterday, the latest being The Depots. Da** him all to hell. Bet you he had the virus in a vault (in a anti virus program) and he/she let the bastard loose. By the way I don't know what the difference is between a worm and boot virus, so please don't ask me to explain.

As Sgt. Friday of the LAPD says....."just the facts maam".......

Do you know if the data in the PM was affected? I had a lot of info from my playtesters & designers for our France 1940 campaign there

It appears that the hacker was a person calling himself Insomnia ('the Turkish Hacker'), not a virus, as far as we know.
