I was thinking of installing WiTP on my Flash Drive so I can play it at work. Is this possible? Are there any required registry settings that WITP needs to run?

I didn't want to do any registry changes to my work computer.

Bump....

I'd be interested in an answer to this as well, just for being able to switch easily from computer to computer without a full install. Although, I'm wondering if it is illegal to do so?

Are you using both computers at the same time to play WitP?

If you are not using both computers at the same time, it shouldn't be illegal, IMHO

Yes, the copyright issue with software is kind of based on the book concept; you can take the book from one place to the other, but two people cannot use it at the same time. Similarly, copying the program to two computers would be OK, provided the progarm would not be used at the same time.

I know that the registry is used to store the version number, so I doubt you would be able to play without changing the registry.

Not necessarily. Two people should not be playing it simultaneously, but if I choose to run 2 computers and play both, then no issue. Not real efficient, but permissible. The software licence is to the individual, not the computer.

Unfortunately, the software industry picked a poor example to follow (books) as there are some distinct differences. Kinda like a square peg in a round hole theory.

No, I would only be using it on one computer at a time.

Reason I am asking is because I have just been switched to nights and there is NOTHING for me to do. Unless something breaks, I just sit here. I don't have much time to play WiTP at home, so I thought that would be a good time killer. I miss my WiTP

Hmmm - then why are people able to play different versions of the game (various PBEMs) on one computer??

It might be possible - i guess there is one way to find out: try it!

Just copy the whole WitP directory to the flash drive. WitP doesn't need registry entries. I'm not saying it does not create such during installation, but it works without those. I know because I had to re-install my complete registry AFTER WitP was installed (not because of WitP), and there was no problem running WitP.
Cheers

Well I got a "Fatal Error: 771"

Maybe the serial number information is in the registry? Man, I got all excited being able to play WiTP at work. Anyone run into this error and how to correct it?

Burn the install file to the flash drive and install to the flash drive at work?

I am planning on a cruise with Carnival Cruise Lines out of Orlando. If I bring a laptop can I play PBEM via the ships e-mail system. Has anyone done this. Will it cost me a fortune in E-Mail time or is there another way to get my fix. I have to be discreet about this. the wife would kill me if she thought I was going to play WITP on our cruise.

I`m pretty sure that Witp copies several files to the Windows\System directory.

I reinstalled XP because I upgraded my machine, and I had two WitP instalations that didn´t work.

I installed one, and the second one began to work
