...Yeah. Got to be careful when looking just authors.

I'am not too sure how much my efforts have hurt Dave. As said he has lost a huge amount of aircraft and he still keeps pushing forward. (I have lost massive amounts of CV based planes too)

Next turn HI will be hit at Tokyo. Fingers crossed that it will be succesfull.

A brief describtion the happenings from last turn.

Yikes , you sending in untrained pilots ? USN pilot pool is way too low as discovered by some others before. as that result flies in the face of A2A ratio of even experienced japanese pilots .

Or has the USN decided to go one step further with its pigeon training program and have advanced them to combat planes as well as "guided" missiles

True Rob. I have a lot of drain into my pilots! ...but there is and are no other options. I need to start hitting and hitting him hard!

The whole Iwo Jima adventure turned almost into total disaster. I had send way more ships and way more troops into fray and results have been horrific for both sides.

Attrition is the word of the day. I almost got burned last turn! ...I did not see this BB strike coming but I ended lucky. What a turn...!

US CV's will also lurk in the are and strike on possible targets.

LBA will strike againts enemy airfield at Osaka/Kobe.

Elsewhere my B29's visited Mukden and destroyed nice amount HI there.

Next turn Osaka/Kobe's industrial ability will be hit with aircraft flying from Iwo Jima and also B29's from China. Dave better start moving his elite pilots into Japan quickly. (Should ease the pressure elsewhere)

In Burma my troops continue to march towards Mandalay. I want to liberate Myithkina first though.

I have also launched heavy raids againts Marcus Island. This airfield needs to be kept closed for good.

No sign of enemy capital ships near Iwo Jima. My CV will patrol the area. (Actualy 1/2 of the CV force is now in port going through theír upgrades)

At least I did found some of his vessels. Allthough he did put up an stubborn defense.

I doubt that this PBEM will become more peacefull anytime soon. He need defend his home islands and I need to try hurt him as much as I can.

Elsewhere... Burma offensive has stalled at Mandalay and the last resistance at Iwo Jima has been wiped out!

You might consider doing Manpower attacks against Home Island cities too. Firestorms can destroy and damages facilities quite well to gain points.

Hmmm. I will take that tip under advicement! ...The major idea is to hurt his industry and airforce as much as possible. I will be launching some manpower attacks soon.

How is life at Malta btw?

The allied ground troops are resting at Iwo Jima before I deciede where to assault next. I guess the obvious thing would be to secure Bonin and Marcus Island. On the other hand there are some juicy not so obvious targets available.

As when it comes to Malta, I fear I become obese soon... Food is just too good and comes in big portions... Beer is also cheap... And weather just now is like during good summer in Finland...

There was some good testing done (might been Apollo 11) about strategic bombing of Japanese Home Islands...but forum search function sucks as usual. You might want to check that yourself to decide what sort of attacks to make.

BTW, maybe you could take Okinawa ?

Apollo 11 Manpower bombing tests. Quote:

" I think significant damage - 1 raid and 10% is destroyed/damaged...

BTW, I just realized that although I on purpose targeted the "Manpower" the other objects were also heavily destroyed/damaged as well!

In almost every raid there was 5%, 10%, 20% damage to:

Heavy Industry
Resources
Oil

Therefore the attacks are _HIGHLY_ successful / _VERY_ effective for USA and _DEVASTATING_ for Japan! "

I have always taken issue with Apollo's tests because they were always un-opposed.  It also doesn't take into account the ops losses, fatigue and weather limitations of flying from Saipan/Tin/Guam.  And all the WTF?! that goes along with PBEM.  In my campain '45 game vs. Oli, he tried bombing unescorted with his B-29s.  Even with utterly suck pilots (game started in '45, I didn't have the luxury of training), I traded about 3:2 (3 B-29s dead, for every 2 fighters).  Just disrupting the attack, whether you kill anying or not, will make your bombing results plummet.  The damage to my factories was negligable, and there were no more un-escorted raids by B-29s after about two weeks.

Frankly, Oli did considerbly more damage pushing up TF-58, absorbing hundreds of kamis (with no result), and then pulverizing the AFs.  But I digress.

Between actually having fighter opposition, and the fact that Erstad's pilots are GOOD (we both know he's a trains ALL THE TIME); if you fly those B-29s over Japan unescorted, you're going to get slaughtered.  And you'll have very little to show for it.

True. Dave trains his pilots but this time around he will doomed unless I do ran out of pilots! ...I have +4000 pilots in US Army pools BUT the game indicates that nomore pilots available. This has something to do with 30 000 or 32 000 pilot limit that Dave read somewhere here in the forums. Actually I don't know whether he gets to draw of pilots first or how it is determined on how the new pilots are given???

The above does not mean that I will cancel the home island bombing campaign. Definately NO. I need to hurt him bad and that is what I intend to do.

As for whether it is wise to do manpower or HI bombings that remains to be seen. I gather that if he does not have HI than his production will STOP? Correct? ... that is one of my goals and the other is to hurt his airforce as much as humanly possible.

Oh.. and for Feinder ---> Dave said that he has learned his lessons with this PBEM and he said that he wohn't be making same mistakes again. (I guess the Iwo Jima will be a lot tougher in your PBEM)

Here are the latest bombing runs made by US Airforce againts Tokyo.

Next turn HI is targeted again at Tokyo. Once this is "destroyed" than I need think where to hit next. There are some big aircraft factories which needs to be shutdown soon.

In Burma the British offensive is not going too well. Japanese tried to counterstrike last turn at Myithkina but were repulsed.

Considering the run he's given you in this game, it's hard to imagine Dave considering this his "mistake" game.

Damn! All I can say about the kamikaze's! 1 CVE is quite severely hit and 2 CVE's gained moderate damage.

In Burma I'am trying to bomb enemy troops at Mandalay and Myithkina. The supply situation for me is looking bad. Dave also landed some paratroopers behind the lines which are of annoyance to say at least.

I wonder what is he up to in India. (Again I think I will find out soon enough)

Again NO PILOTS AVAILABLE is the key message. This affects every nation and we propably over the 32 000 limit ...How are the newly pilots given/divided? Evenly I hope... or do the Japanese side full fill their ranks first and than me??? If so than.....

Dave has decieded to start small resource bombing campaign in Oz (Rockhampton) and in China. (Kumming) I did move some Kittyhawks into Rockhampton now.

RAF has intensified its operations at Burma. I need to break the stalemate soon.

Soon I will launch an invasion of the Bonin's.

Dave has started night navalstrikes againts Iwo Jima and Wake Island. Hmm, desperate perhaps.. measures have been taken to deal with this issue.

The battles over at Mandalay continue.

Ground combat at Mandalay

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 146765 troops, 507 guns, 1904 vehicles, Assault Value = 3135

Defending force 24149 troops, 39 guns, 1 vehicles, Assault Value = 443

Allied max assault: 1632 - adjusted assault: 220

Japanese max defense: 356 - adjusted defense: 559

Allied assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 7)

Japanese ground losses:
2059 casualties reported
Guns lost 19

Allied ground losses:

Not good at all. I'am running low on supplies so I really need to seize this base. Also the assaults at Myithkina have been unsuccesfull.

1/2 of my Capital CV's have gone through their upgrades at Pearl Harbour. These ships will link up into action soon. (I will than give some of the CV's a rest and refit time)

A lot of dead pilots and lost aircraft. There were some B29's raids too but these were repulsed by the Japanese CAP at Nagoya. Next turn the city will be targeted again.

The good news is that 3 CV TF has left Pearl Harbour. These ships will relieve couple of allied CV's which are due to go through their upgrades and refits.

I have disengaged at Mandalay. Allied troops will march to Myithkina where they will link up the spearhead that got stuck there. With these troops I think I can capture the base and break off the stalemate at Burma.

Some US Troops are preparing for the upcoming Bonin's invasion which will start in due time.

...good. Now there are a lot of fires raging through Nagoya.

Next turn B29's will strike againts Nagoya while US 4E bombers with fighter escorts will fly againts Osaka/Kobe.

The allied offensive at Myithkina was completely stone walled. Reinforcements should reach the base within day or two though.

Allied HQ is now considering its options at CenPac. More about the forthcoming decisions soon.

You really need to try some manpower bombing. You get more points from that since it can damage/destroy *any* resource/industy in base in addition to manpower hits due to firestorms. It shows only MP hits, but you can check cities from your City Attack targetting menu (which gives accurate intel, unlike hovering cursor on base).

OT: Did hit 97 kg on scales one day due to food and beer here..so I had to go on "diet"...  Me not wanting to go obese..it's always danger here...

Yeah. I think you are right once again. I will check what kind of fire damage the B29's have caused when the next turn arrives. (These bombers have been on Manpower strikes for 6 days than)

I'am actually thinking about raiding Manila with my CV's. Dave has a lot of ships there (+400) and what I gather huge amount of aircraft too. This might be a bit dangerous though since the kamikazes aren't exactly useless either.

Another idea is to blockade the sea route to Luzon with the CV's.

...or than again both ideas might be doable...

Only downside is that I don't have massive amount of Navy pilots/aircraft available due to the carnage that has been ongoing.

As RL... heh.. Those happy hour beers are starting to show!!! ..but at least you are not starving though!

Good. B29's will bomb manpower in Nagoya next turn. Rest of allied bomber force will knock out Nakajima factories at Tokyo or that is the plan at least.

Allied CV TF 1 has left Iwo Jima and sails towards Luzon. I haven't decieded whether to launch an airstrike againts Manila yet.

Allied CV TF 2 will rendevouz at Midway and once there it will sail towards Iwo Jima sector.

Ground units are preparing for ambhitious assault againts Bonin's. Once enough preparation points are gained than these troops will begin offensive.

A large ground offensive will be launched at Myithkina next turn. Hopefully the base will be captured. RAF continues to bomb enemy ground troops stationed at Burma.

Hopefully I can get some results with this strategic bombing campaign. I think though that Dave has stockpiled a lot of engines and resources so this wohn't be easy.
