I would assume that 1.8 patch will be out sooner ...but you just can't be sure about that

Actually, it doesn't take anymore 15-20 minutes to get PBEM turn ready so basically it is as fast as the game vs AI

PBEM's are great and the only downside is the fact that you just don't know whether your opponent will be there to finish the game

Yes, it is valuable to have at least few fighters in China early on. I can't wait to have some Spitfire squadrons ready since they can make quite an impact

I would guess that he will be moving to Burma with force... what else he has in mind is anyones game since he will have more troops coming from Manila soon enough

Well, playing WitP is sort of on/off-thing for me. Sometimes I play lot every day, sometimes I don't fire it up for week or two. That'd make it difficult to have PBEM game going.

so long as you make that clear to your opponent at the outset i don't see a problem with it. There is no law that says " Thou must return games ASAP" .. If you find someone who is happy to have occasional game spurts then fine . For people with multiple PBEMS having a lull in one game can be quite restful. ALthough when they ALL stop its damn annoying

I will have tough time here since I'am lacking in fighters. Wirraways and Brewsters just don't match againts tough Japanese Zero's.

I can't even ship in more soon since the blockade in the South Pacific. (Allthough there is not much Fighters in West Coast either).

DEI

There is no good news here either. He started to land his ground troops at Kragen.
Soon the Japanese ground offensive will begin.

Im sure you can upgrade the aussie units to hurricanes from the game start. may well be worth having a look to see if you can. Brit and dutch not till may/july BUT aussies can and will upgrade.

May help boost air defence a tad .. cos wirracoffins suck badly.

Yes, that is worth a look but I think most of the ac's available only upgrade to Kittyhawks. That's not good.

The short term outlook isn't great. Now that he has captured Malaya (Phillipines propably will fall within next few days) he has a lot of infantry units that he can concentrate in other areas.

DEI will not last long since there just isn't enough firepower to defend it either.

Once he has completed these task he propably will move into Australia and India. I do actually think he might go for both places.

At the moment I'am lacking ground troops in both places. (..and in Australia fighters too as we speak).

I have to admit that Erstad really is tough opponent. Very few mistakes so far and I don't think he will make too many in future All in all this game will get nasty once we get little further in game time

oh not playing PDU ?

sounds like your having the same sort of trouble vs erstad as i am vs 2nd ACR .. seems like a new league

Id be suprised if he could do BOTH india and australia .. even PzB couldn't do that .. and he's the god of jap AAr's :) .

humm well india .. hyderabad is a good spot for a fast reactive counterinvasion group. and never send more into burma unless your sure he's not hitting india .. well worth garisonning diamond harbour and chandpur too.

Yes, PDU is off

Well, I'am developing patience. I have build up Christmas Island, Pearl and Midway so I'am think defensively at this time.

This style of play is so diffent from my previous experiences and it taking some time to adjust that

Even Raverdave is getting his butt kicked againts Sneer very badly! So, we are not alone Rob

Hmpf, India and Australia... I do actually think he might be able to pull it off so early on. Let's say that late 1942 makes it impossible but it is only February 1942

PzB might have taken Australia and India if he had actually moved in. Allied side is not that strong in 1942!

HEHE .. yeah i much prefer a challenge ..

one idea Jarvis island ?? dot base SW of christmas island is a great base for transferring a/c to canton .. well worth building up to a size 1 at least. ( allows P40's) and i think P39's transfer .. cant use it for F4's though they are 1 hex too short range.

Yep.

Adjust quickly, or you will die.

Erstad is a like a rabid dog. Very agressive and if you don't stop him, he'll attack/infect everything on the farm. Stopping him takes a lot of planning and a healthy dose of luck.

But if you -know- he'll attack/infect everything, one option is to:

Find a quiet spot in the corner of the barn and wait there for him with the biggest f_cking gun you own, with all the ammo you can scrounge. When he does show up, shoot him in the face as fast as you can until either he's dead or he rips out your liver.

-F-

Well, first 6 months are mostly "damage control" anyway. I usually start only to even think about counter-attacks when it's past May 42. If you have not lost in spring 1943 you'll most likely win. That's good part in playing Allies...it's just darn annoying for few months...

Thanks for the comments guys!

As Feinder said Erstad can eat you alive! It's time start think more agressive defense.

Jarvis Island is good idea but the problem is the fact that he holds Canton Island . My intel indicates that he has 10 troops there so counter offensive is out of the question at the moment.

Also KB showed up again... more about that later.

No. The only base I got left in Phillippines is Manila. The capital will fall soon since supply level at the moment is 0. I have 3xAK's trying to reach the city but I doubt they will arrive soon enough.

Invasion of Palembang has begun.

Madioeng is also under Japanese infantry offensive.

It also seems that he has now +150 ships at Singapore. I wonder where will these troops head out next?!

That sounds dangerous .. what are your defences at chandpur and diamond harbour like ? the brit arty units can double as CD guns and i usually move 1 to each place 2 divs is poss and tanks in reserve.

Celyon is a real possibility BUT personally i think its a jap POW camp once british airpower takes off (soon).

Good luck

p.s is that the AVG getting ground down in china ? maybe try and keep it intact and defend one place in force ( but keep changing) . great LR CAP ability too.

We have agreed on very flexible reinforcements so unfortunately I'am really short of solid LCU units in India ...Ceylon could be target here as you guys pointed out!

...also he has now landed in Australia!!! I have troops there but not that many fighter planes so that's not good at all!

AVG is split in 3 squadrons in China. I might reform it to fully operational force soon as suggested.

The current situation in Australia is not good at all.

This might even force me to try an invasion againts Canton Island & Pago Pago.

I simply need more and better fighters down in the South Pacific! Also more infantry units are badly needed at Noumea and surrounding islands!

This is not what I would like to do for couple of simple facts:

1) I have no clue where the KB is at the moment! Last sighting was near Christmas Island before it disappeared!

2) This offensive would require me to commit my CV's. I have just 5 US CV at Pearl Harbour and it is early times in this war.

3) He has 10 LCU units at Canton Island and I don't have a clue what that means in terms of total troop strenght!

Ouch... That's all I can say... I can commit 2 divs, 2 brigades for the invasion but.... the risk is there that this would end up in total disaster!

The situation at China is not looking good either... I haven't had chance to look what the situation is after the Changsa was lost... but I would estimate that I really need to start pulling back towards inner China. This means evacuation of Henchow and surrounding bases.

I think hiting canton ( while appealing) cound be a massive mistake. with the loss of 2ndUSMC your lacking good troops too. I think just re-write what you expected to lose and try and work round it. CV raiding might be ok though ( just a thought) and it'll give you some intel on the units there . use some range 5 seaplanes on recon.

Yikes ! is all i can say in china .. that juggernaught is nigh on unstoppable. just try and ensure it doesn't head north to chungking. I suspect he will hoover up the rail line bases than think about heading inland any chance of a screenie of china ?

and P40's lost on the runways too .. not good .. place fell a lot faster than i ever suspected too.

As you advised me earlier . hunker down . but be annoying if possible.

Assume KB could be anywhere ( might even have split up) and i would suspect its keeping back from the aussie adventure as your carriers could ruin his day round here ( although they are a million miles away in PH )

Maybe think of moving them south to aukland/sydney so there close to the action. sitting in PH they arent doing a thing.

and as ever .. good luck

I will post the screenshot from China in next post.

I know the Canton Island operation is a high risk but...

There are more bad news from South Pacific and China this turn too.

The Japanese Juggernaught did continue this turn too...

I have my CV's (5 US CV's in Pearl Harbour) and I could move them towards South Pacific but I'am not sure if that is a good move due to the blockade.

I did loose the 2nd USCM divison fully... It is at SF rebuilding and it's assault value is 250 at the moment.

Here are the latest news.. (Comments appreciated)

He cannot hold in Australia in long run. You can march enough troops in later to drive him to sea whatever he does. He's probably just trying to tie up your forces therte for a while to keep you from reinforcing Noumea etc.

True. The worrying thing is that he has blockaded the whole Australia. I really need send in fighters and bombers in order to support the continent. Also, supply convoys are same... very hard to get pass by.

He will assault Noumea and that will make things even harder. Now that he controls Broome and Derby he can "blockade" the supply convoys coming from India too.

China... well, that is an mess. Those troops that retreated are not in good shape. As said hopefully they withdrew towards Chungking. Anyway, this theatre is a mess. I have +200 000 troops at Sian and Northern China. I think need to withdraw these forces too towards Chungking since I do not want my frontline to collapse.

Came to my mind that if he sends those guys from Singapore to Darwin then you may be in big trouble.

Anyhow, just route your convoys from US via NZ. That should do for a while. Bit micromanagement, but should work. You *should* be getting some reinforcements soon both in AUS and in India...I hope...
I think it's way too early to start thinking about counteroffensives. KB will eat most invasion fleets alive it it gets there before summer of 1942.

You're screwed...

(* just kidding *)

But you -DO- have to stop his roll.

Erstad has this nasty habit of attacking everywhere with overwhelming force (and quickly!).

Like I said, Erstad is a rabid dog. You gotta find one corner of the barn and wait there with everything you have. Pick a spot where you -know- he'll come to in, say a month. Pack everything you possibly can there. 3 or 4 Divisions. Your CVs. Everything. (It'll take you month to get what you -need- there).

Wait for him.

Then you shoot him in the face until either he's dead, or you are.

-F-
