I just noticed the belt that he (I mean I) was wearing during the take. Is that an iPod on his belt?

BREAKING NEWS:

Matrix and 3x5 have hired someone new to fix the "legacy" coding in WITP:

I worked on one of those systems once. This company had invented their own programming language for communicating between boxes in an embedded system. The place was run by a guy of Italian descent who's family moved to Argentina in 1945. He appeared to have learned his management style from the fascists. As a result, the turnover in this company was huge and there was only one person left in the entire company who knew this programming language. The reason this guy hadn't left was that he was such a massive jerk that nobody else would hire him.

I looked over this language trying to get a handle on it. It was the most arcane and non-intuitive programming language I've ever seen.

It's a little scary when you see your life reflected in a cartoon strip.

i've been reading (or trying to read) A History of the Sino-Japanese War 1937- 1945, which was one of the few books i've been able to find on the subject.

It was apparently written in Chinese by people in the Nationalist faction, and then translated (ugh). Anyway, the first several chapters are on Cultural Warfare, Political Warfare, Economic Warfare, etc. Some weird stuff is popping up - and is kind of astonishing. For instance, the number of words transmitted by the Chinese telegraphy system in a year (translated to bytes) is probably less than the download of a movie...

Anyway, here is one little factoid i also found astonishing: according to this book: in 1937 (the year of the start of the War of Resistance), what was the main monetary export (i.e. - product that got the most money) of China (not under Japanese control)?

That's where the glossy black finishes come from in the Chinese resturaunts...

Yep - here's from Wiki:

"Tung oil is made from the pressed seed from the nut of the tung tree. Tung oil is considered a drying oil much as linseed, safflower, poppy and soybean oil. When applied it provides a tough, highly water resistant finish which does not darken noticeably with age as does linseed oil.

Tung oil is also sometimes called “China wood oil”. It has been used for hundreds if not thousands of years in China to seal decorative and marine wood as well as porous masonry."

I'm having much fun in my PBEM!  Can hardly wait for the next turn...

Oh, you mean how I'm doing in real life...? Everythings fine. But I'm procrastinating Christmas shopping, so things might get worse...

I've almost finished Christmas shopping, but I hate anything to do with shopping , especially when the local town is terrible for shopping and traffic. At least my wife wasn't with me, that would probably have pushed me over the edge

She won't, Woolworths won't refund rubber gloves, brillo pads and dishwashing liquid

Thanks to Wikipedia, I now know what this is.

I wish I hadn't looked it up... Why would anyone play a sport that needs such stuff?!

Cricket is the sport of gentlemen, also cricket balls are bloody hard, I got cracked on the head by one once it hurt, and I nearly broke a guys wrist once when practicing bowling

That doesn't really answer my question, does it?  Anyway, to each his own, I guess... I prefer non-contact sports.

Except when playing mixed, of course.

... and suddenly I realize that cricket is a non-contact sport, too. There goes my punchline.

Cricket is a non-contact sport.

I have fond memories of mixed 'sports' In secondary school I managed to dodge out of waterpolo, instead I got to learn about trampolining, with the girls Needless to say, as a 15 year old lad in with a bunch of girls I mostly acted as the safety person
