Morning tithe...

Well, decided to backup all my data for New Years - it is NOT going well... i think my main computer is sinking fast, however, there is a possibility that it is a combination of factors that is preventing me from doing backups.

Anyway, Happy New Year's Eve to all (except for RaverDave who is already into the New Year...)

Well, that too.

There's oil leaking up from about 15 sunk hulls (DD, MSW, AK)

My computer was having problems starting apps. I got a DVD writer for Chritmas. I replaced the CD-RW withe the DVD writer and my problems went away. I did not realize the CD-RW was bad and that you could clear what I thought to be a software problem with new hardware

Not sure what the problem is, but *probably* part is hardware based, but some has to be windows... i have been removing programs, and the more i remove, the "happier" the computer seems, and the fewer error messages i get, the fewer reboots, and fewer errors on reboot.

i will be getting a new computer when the one i want is available (probably this spring) - and i am going to Mac. It can still run windows stuff with the new machines (intel based), so i can still run games, etc. But i am very tired of Mr. Gates' sphaghetti code OS that doesn't work worth a <insert very bad word here>...

Everyone i know with a Mac is delighted with them - but i am waiting for the Blue-Ray to come out on the Mac this spring...

Well Gang, that's it for me... Leaving for New Year's shindig shortly.

All that remains is to spend about 20 minutes tying my tie, and then the 4 seconds it'll take my girlfriend to tie it "properly" so she can be seen in public with me...

Happy and Safe New Year to all!

So, Niceguy. Are you snowed in again?

Not really, the brunt of this storm missed us. We only got 7" more (17.8 cm).

Interesting side note, our mayor (Mayor Hickenlooper) got a lot of flak for the city closing down during the storm a week ago. The media apparently decided that the city should have stayed open and so ran stories all week about the "Debacle of 2006" . Truth be told I don't know anyone who thought this at the time. Throughout Denver's history anytime we have gotten 20+ inches of snow in 24 hours the city closes. It only happens about once every 5 years. However, due to the medias slanted and biased coverage people are now saying the Mayor did a poor job.

Bruce, did you ever upgrade the operating system? It sounds like it was a faulty driver. Sometimes when Windows upgrades, or installs a new service pack, they stop supporting older hardware drivers, which can cause problems. I had that problem on my Compaq years ago.

i am thinking of a Mac Pro - there is some software with which it is supposed to be able to run Windows (i think it uses a different partition)... kinda expensive compared to Windows based stuff, but i figure with VISTA coming out, i'll probably end up having to buy new programs and hardware anyway.

Thank you.

Some specs on this in basic configuration :
QUAD CORE = Two 2.66GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon "Woodcrest" processors
1GB memory (667MHz DDR2 fully-buffered DIMM ECC)
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT graphics with 256MB memory
250GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s 7200-rpm hard drive1
16x double-layer SuperDrive

it can go up to 16 gigs of memory, and as i said, i am waiting for Blueray to come out on it. There is a blueray external unit available (but apparently only in Japan). You can also get faster processors (quad 3 GHz should process WITP in record time... )
