Right now, oh so very tempting...

OK - about the time things got so very bad with my computer, i had to replace the scanner that went south... i ended up with a HP7300 "does everything" unit... unfortunately, it tries to live up to its name... it installed all kinds of junk which periodically tried seizing control of my computer and kept trying to install something called PHOTOGALLERY... i finally killed off some of the STARTUP programs it installed and regained some measure of control of the computer.

After reinstalling WITP just now, i tried starting it - and lo and behold - the stupid HP PHOTOGALLERY reared its ugly head and seized control of the computer again. Using Control Panel - i can kill the HP PHOTOGALLERY, but then i am back to square one with loading WITP. Click on load WITP - i get the PHOTOGALLERY nonsense again.

i am trying to uninstall SOME of the HP features... i may end up junking this brand new printer/scanner/fax/whatever unit...

Whew - after killing off the HP "control" program, i can now get WITP to load... the HP unit still scans and prints, which is all i really want it to do right now...

So, i am pretty much back to where i was in November (computerwise)...

Now to see if i can get WITP 1.804 running, and load CHS.

Due to some other bizarre circumstances, i am also going to have to relocate my computer, which is a major undertaking... sigh...

Arrghh... more problems - after going through the CHS setup proceedure, it is not working... apparently the extended map did not install - everything is off kilter, bases are out in the middle of the ocean, ships are not (sometime) not appearing in the combat animations...

Any ideas? Do we need to go to map version 6.3 (i went to 6.2)?

i am once again deinstalling WITP and starting over...

Next - according to AB's CHS Installation instructions, since i have everything downloaded, i must INSTALL ANDREW BROWN'S MAP... unzip it, read the README (already done)... run the "MapMod-Install" batch file utility...

Hmmm... i have a sneaking suspicion i know what might have happened... somehow, i was supposed to get a prompt to load the new map - but that never happened... i should have used the special utility to load the map...

When running modselect, you type in a number corresponding to the option you are using.

Yep - this was my problem... i used this, and it worked fine... problem was, i selected to end the batch file at one point as i had already made backups of the art files, so thought i was done. This aborted a key step or two.

i now have it loaded and it looks nice. i am using the 6.2 map.

BTW - i had run a turn 0 (before things were installed correctly) - turn 0 looks really brutal for the Allies.
