well, there was the recent Steakhouse hijack attempt.....and this morning we had yet another "GG is an Axis Fanboy" thread due to an alleged bias built into Zero vs Wildcat fights.

Then again, maybe he's just annoyed at his internship.

Steakhous hijack attempt ...I'm missing all the fun.

Zero vs Wildcat fights will be there as long as there are new players to this game.

BTW, you might want to doublecheck your latest answer in main forum.

Hi Faber. Did you have a nice weekend? I was far too busy but am trying to look at the big picture of forces and am making a meager attempt to allocate them by command for you to review and adjust. It's driving me nuts because I need to get some more info from the game and won't have access until tonight.

Yes..."port attack"...my PBYs from PM hit a CV (disbanded) in Rabaul.

You need to have a sub in the hex (i think).

hmmm odd.

Shouldn't need a sub technically since the "port" (or airfield) is a known location. Reason for the need of a sub for naval attack is because there's no Night search phase to "spot" any TF's.

Well, i had a sub there just in case...

BTW, that's how i had a "sub hit a mine" situation...was doing a night port attack on Singapore...no luck this time.

a sub hitting a mine is better than a lone battleship bombardment force running into the entire Japanese fleet.

At least now you know the whereabouts of Japanese fleet...

As for night attacks, i checked the CR...it looks even better than i remembered:

Night Air attack on Rabaul , at 61,88

Allied aircraft
PBY Catalina x 27

Allied aircraft losses
PBY Catalina: 9 destroyed, 16 damaged

Japanese Ships
CV Hiryu, Bomb hits 1
CV Zuikaku, Bomb hits 1, Torpedo hits 1
CV Akagi, Torpedo hits 1, on fire

Japanese ground losses:
21 casualties reported

Port supply hits 1

Aircraft Attacking:
8 x PBY Catalina launching torpedoes at 200 feet
9 x PBY Catalina launching torpedoes at 200 feet
6 x PBY Catalina launching torpedoes at 200 feet

Yep....Robbie RRoberson managed to slip in his entire battleship fleet into Saipan in our 44 campaign game and a mutual battle of anhilation occured, him losing 7 BB's to my 6, a pair of CA's each and a slight edge in DD losses. (which i'm making up by blasting Iboats left and right.

Regrettably, my CV force decided to make no attacks that day in spite of no cloud and lots of spotting. A bit of a pisser but at least he's having some fun and showing that Japan isn't entirely helpless even in 44.

Oh that and my land campaign is still stalled. Bugger. Game must be broken!

I stand corrected then. I didn't think they'd drop any torps at night on a port attack.

B sounds better even to my yankee ear. Suspect it differs on opposite sides of the pond on this one.

Question 2:

I think this is a trick question. Money is a collective noun, so it really doesn't have a true plural in the normal sense. Monies is the way I've seen it spelled, on the rare occasion I've seen it.

Oooo, a difficult one. I pick b.

I prefer c: A hysterical event.

OK - only the Martian has taken up the challenge!
Question 1
A. is the correct answer according to the Language Snob, usage being recommended in the US since at least the time of Mark Twain.

B. Pleural of money is MONEYS. Someone who has a lot of money is said to be MONEYED (according to The Language Snob).

C. ding ding ding ding - Mynok is correct with B.

D. ding ding ding ding - Mynon is correct again. Preferred spelling is "forbade", but it pronounced "for-bad". An alternate spelling is forbad.

Pretty good Mynok - the radio interviewer only got one of these correct...

Dictionary.com has both moneys and monies as valid.
In Britain, the answer to #1 is b. I agree with the Brits and not Mark Twain on this one.
