well, if it is a normal shoe closet, 90%+ of the shoes are going to belong to his GF. i figured Nik for the athletic type shoe on the shelf just beneath the cat. The cat would thus have a tactical advantage when Nik was reaching for his pair of Nikes (or whatevers...)

The "special occasion punting" man mean that he uses them to punt snakes. That way, any scuff marks would blend into the shoes actually improving the finish as he punts away...

i've seen a similar one with the pilot and copilot smiling and looking back over their shoulders at the person taking the pic, with another plane looming in the windshield...
