There's a joke about relative intelligence levels there, but I'd have to be on-line to make it.

Hey, you be preachin' to the choir here. I KNOW what my intelligence level is, relative to the other side of the gender divide.

As Henry Rollins once said,

"Women are smarter than men, stronger than men, f*cking more violent than men..."

Nope. First used in the Spanish civil war by the communists. Not sure why the anarchists because they are supposed to be anti-government. Communism is most certainly a form of government.

Just not a very good one...

Ok, bird guys. (Are there any here?)

There is bird living in a tree outside our house that insists on calling loudly and incessantly at 3 friggin AM. In fact, I can here him/her singing right now at 12:30 and it's just getting started.

Is a 12 gauge my only option, because it is a strongly considered option right now.

well, there are some non-violent things you migh want to try before being busted for discharge of a firearm within city limits... (assuming you live in a city.)

You might consider the take owl approach (garden places sell such "decoys" to keep pests away, and this definitely sounds like a pest!) There are also things you can do to trim the tree to make it less inviting to the roosting birdie (trim away the interior stuff leaving the exterior leaves intact - the birds like to roost under the outer leaves, but if they have no place to sit, they go elsewhere.)

BTW - some claim rubber/fake snakes draped in a tree also works - some folks use lengh of hose to simulate snakes. Birds tend to avoid such infested trees.

So... Word of the Day:

DISGRUNTLED

Prefixing a word with the syllable "dis-" normally indicates that something previously possessed has been lost, i.e. "dispossessed". That logic would suggest that prior to becoming disgruntled, an individual would need to be "gruntled".

What does it feel like to be "gruntled"? Is "gruntled" the basic state of being, or is there some previous, unknown state? Can you "gruntle" or is it only something you can be?

Hmmm...

Went out and bought myself a new printer today, subsequent to the suicide of my former one. It's one of those HP multi-function things: it can print, scan, copy, make coffee, showel snow, clean the gutters, function as an AC, vacuum, microwave popcorn... It barely fits on my desk, but hey...

"Sometimes when I reflect back on all the wine I drink I feel shame. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the vineyards and all of their hopes and dreams If I didn't drink this wine, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this wine and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."
~ Jack Handy

And saving the best for last, as explained by Cliff Clavin, of Cheers. One afternoon at Cheers, Cliff Clavin was explaining the Buffalo Theory to his buddy Norm.
Here's how it went:

"Well ya see, Norm, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers."
