Yeah well, there's been animosity of some level or other between Denmark and Sweden for many centuries. We've fought several wars, and one of our two national anthems devotes an entire verse to how much we dislike the Swedes.

Ah - did not need to imply they WERE in Denmark... but search engines dredge up strange results (i plugged in Luxembourg Invades Denmark)... i just thought the composition of the Royal Forces was - strange.

This also came up a little later in the war (and you think YOU have logistics problems):

"Armfelt's J�mtland Army does not begin to withdraw until the first of the year and is caught in a snowstorm. 80% of its main force freezes to death or dies of frostbite."

Strictly speaking, they were in Denmark, since Denmark owned Norway at the time...

Not being familiar with the war - i assume that Sweden managed to grab Dalsland, V�rmland and J�mtland at some point. i started reading the account, but it was confusing without maps...

Sweden owned those three places the whole time. What I meant was that the Swedes invaded Norway (i.e. Denmark) from there.

Some of the more nationalistic Norwegians still dislike Denmark for what they call "The Night of 500 years".

In one of the Halloween episodes, Homer goes into the mystical third dimension. Shortly after he first enters, there is a blackboard on which is written an equation: 1782(raised to the twelth power) + 1841 (raised to the twelth power) = 1922 (raised to the twelth power). i can't write it well here since we don't have exponents...

What is the significance of the equation??

Actually, IF the equation had been true (it is not), it would disprove probably the most famous (only just recently proved) theorem in mathematics: Fermat's Last Theorem, that for any exponent greater than 2, there are no nonzero whole numbers a, b, and c where a^n + b^n = c^n (the "^n" means raised to the nth power).

The equation was still unproved when the show came out... and if you plug it into your calculator, the equation will in fact balance. However, it is a trick that takes place due to rounding errors in your computer/calculator.

Turns out many of the writers on the Simpsons are mathematicians, scientists and computer scientists and apparently hide little mathematical puzzles and jokes in the show.

Ah, so it IS "cold"* there!

It's been running around 40 degrees C here - of course we do have AC and *generally* don't have it at 84 indoors...
